High Rollers, developed by International Game Technology, builds from a base of $200,000 as gamblers pop in coins across the state. LA man ordered to stand trial CARSON CITY A Los Angeles man charged with murdering his mother here nearly 1 0 years ago has been ordered to stand trial in a case revived after it was aired on television's "Unsolved Mysteries." Justice of the Peace Robey Willis on Saturday bound over Timothy Michael McClure, 4 1 for trial on an open-murder charge stemming from the January 1 983 death of his mother, Terri McClure.

The Reno woman was found shot to death in the Carson Nugget parking lot. Authorities said the case's 1 988 airing on "Unsolved Mysteries" uncovered enough evidence to send it to court. Willis said prosecutors' evidence against McClure is minimal, but enough marginal evidence exists to bind him over to Carson District Court. Defense attorney Tom Perkins said he plans to file a motion asking the district court to review the preliminary hearing and dismiss the charge against McClure. District Attorney Noel Water conceded the case is based on circumstantial evidence, but said McClure had both the motive and opportunity to kill his mother.

McClure has said his mother may have been robbed and killed by a hitchhiker. She was known to pick up hitchhikers, he said. Welfare boss seeks incentives CARSON CITY The new head of the state Welfare Division has called for new work incentive programs for welfare recipients. Myla Florence said she may seek legislative approval of a "fill the gap" program under which recipients may work for a certain period of time and not give up their earnings or eligibility for benefits. Under the current system, recipients often lose a share of their earnings, and their eligibility for food stamps and Medicaid health coverage when they begin to work, she said.

"The governor is very interested," she said. "We are looking to promote independence rather than dependence on a system that is very costly. "We penalize people if they begin to get out of the welfare web. The current system doesn't provide a transition period." With the state economy fiat, Florence said she will not ask Gov. Bob Miller to increase Aid to Dependent Children benefits next year.

Like other state agencies, the Welfare Division is expected to be earmarked for a zero growth budget in 1993 by the Miller administration. to report a fight in the alley behind the Butfallo Bar. The officer chased the suspect into the Treasury Club and arrested him. Nervous robber gets cold feet A nervous would-be robber started to hold up an East Fourth Street bar Sunday morning but got cold feet and ran orTbefore finishing the crime. Reno police said a man wearing a ski mask entered the Baron Bar at 10:45 a.m. and pointed a handgun at the bartender.

He pulled the trigger, struck the wall near the bartender and demanded money. But as the bartender opened the register, he panicked and fled without any money. Woman wins High Rollers prize A Las Vegas housewife, who requested anonymity, won $254,843 on High Rollers in Laughlin Sunday morning. The 59-year-old woman played six, $5 tokens before hitting the state-wide progressive slot jackpot at the Flamingo Hilton in Laughlin. The Police arrest 2 men on drug charges after stop on 1-00 A routine traffic stop Sunday on Interstate 80 west of Reno netted the arrest of two men on drug charges and the seizure of about $50,000 worth of drugs, authorities said.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Stewart Handte said Mariano Valdivia Gallardo, 34, and Horacio Castro-Garcia, 23, both of Mexico, were booked into Washoe County Jail on a variety of charges. He said the arrests were made after troopers pulled over their vehicle near Mogul and seized about 25 pounds of marijuana, 69 grams of black tar heroin and a bottle of methamphetamine. Handte said the drugs have a street value of about $50,000, making it the most drugs he's seen confiscated by Reno-area troopers in his eight years with the patrol. After they were pulled over about 7:30 a.m., the suspects gave troopers permission to search the vehicle. Most of the drugs were found in a compartment.

Troopers also found two loaded weapons under the front seat of the vehicle. The suspects were en route to Idaho and were arrested for investigation of possession of controlled substances and possession of drugs for sale. E. Williams St. I N.W.
