4 Local Mortuaries for your Convenience and Economy. Reservations to be used for family campgrounds Two of the three family campgrounds operated by the U.S. Forest Service in the Barton Flats area will again be available on a reservation basis, beginning April 11. Both the Barton Flats and San Gorgonio campgrounds, which accommodate 47 to 60 family units, respectively, will be open on a reservation basis, according to Douglas R. Leisz, regional forester.

South Fork campground will remain open on a first come, first served basis, however. The Council, Lobo and Oso group camps will also continue on a reservation-only basis, Leisz said. Fees charged for the family campgrounds will remain at $2, with a maximum stay of seven days allowed from June 10 through Sept. 10. Group camp fees are $20 for Council Camp, $30 for Lobo and $40 per day for Oso.

Those camps are open from May 14 through Oct. 16 with a maximum stay of seven days. Reservations may be made through Ticketron outlets 90 days in advance for those national forest campgrounds on the reservation system, with the exception of those in the Sierra National Forest. Reservations for those sites may be made 60 days in advance. The reservation system applies to 26 of the Forest Service's 900 family campgrounds on the San Bernardino, Cleveland, Eldorado, Sequoia, Sierra, Shasta-Trinity and Stanislaus national forests and the Lake Taboe Basin Management Unit, Leisz said.

'The campground reservation system has been found helpful to campers in planning trips to the more popular campgrounds," Leisz said. "With a reservation in hand, people know they have a place to camp before they leave home and may travel at a more leisurely pace and avoid heavy traffic. "Before the reservation system was used, many people were competing the same campground." Holders of a Golden Age Passport, a pass issued to people who are 62 years old or older, are entitled to a 50 per cent reduction in daily fees at family campgrounds. The pass must be presented to the Ticketron outlet operator before making the reservation, Leisz said. People who are unable to travel to a Ticketron outlet may mail a reservation request, with full payment, to Ticketron, 427 Merchant street, San Francisco, 94111.
