Instead, the station recently sold by Sidney Stern has a chance to offer Reno something it doesn't have, Hagen said Wednesday. Two weeks ago, former KOZZ morning man Bruce Van Dyke, working at a Denver station, proposed a new format for KSXY, said Hagen. She liked the idea. And starting today, KSXY (which is seeking to change its call letters) will offer a variety not heard on other local signals, said Hagen. "A station that will go from James Brown to Lyle Lovett to Simple Minds to Rickie Lee Jones," said Van Dyke, now KSXY program director.

Folk, blues, zydeco will be inter spersed with more popular artists such as Paul Simon and Bruce Hornsby, said Van Dyke, who worked at KOZZ from 1980 to '86. At night, more modern groups will be featured, he said. Van Dyke said he is patterning the station after Denver's KBCO FM. The target audience are ages 18 to 49, he said, and for "the segment of the audience that reads Rolling Stone and reads about new acts." Most rock stations are very conservative in their formats, and are often owned by corporate speculators seeking sure ratings, said Van Dyke. "We're trying to claim a niche that is currently, absolutely unser-viced," he said.

KSXY's staff of disc jockeys were let go Wednesday morning, said Hagen. Terminated disc jockey Mike Abrams said the four full-time and four part-time DJ's were let go with no warning. Elvis' doctor: I didn't kill the King NEW YORK (AP) Blame it on the pressures of stardom, or blame it on his psychological problems. But don't blame the death of Elvis Presley on me, says the King's per-sonal physician, Dr. George Nichopoulos.

"I don't know what killed Elvis. I think maybe a combination of things contributed to it," the man known as "Dr. Nick" says in his first interview since Presley's 1977 death. "Whatever killed Elvis, I had no part." The interview will air in three parts, Nov. 5-7, on the syndicated "A Current Affair." Nichopoulos discounts the claim of Presley biographer Albert Goldman that Elvis committed suicide.

"I don't think Elvis was capable of committing suicide (He) had many opportunities to commit suicide at much more stressful times," says Nichopoulos, who tended to Presley for 11 years. The doctor who allegedly prescribed more than 19,000 different drug doses for Presley during the last Vk years of his life says Elvis was like a son to him. "We had a much closer relationship than doctor to patient. We were real good friends," he says.
