Mrs. Kittleberger Speaks To Club On Defense' Mrs. Hazel Kittleberger was the guest speaker at the Friday afternoon meeting of the Review club held at the home of Mrs. David Schutte. registered nurse, Mrs.

Kit- Ueberger spoke to the group on "Civil Defense in the Case of Atomic Attack." Mrs. Thomas A. Duncan presided over the business session that preceded the program, and later, Mrs. Schutte, assisted by Mrs. Hal Randolph and Mrs.

W. R. Ballew served refreshments. In addition to Mrs. Kittleberger, Mrs.

James Howard, Mrs. James C. Berry, Mrs. Virgil Stuart, Mrs. Paul Green and Mrs.

E. J. Billington were guests. Additional members attending were Mrs. Charles Ayers, Mrs.

Twelve members were.present. Betrothal Is Announced Miss Betty Jean Torreyson, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Torreyson of near Mexico, have announced her betrothal to Naval Cadet E. M.

Weber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Randall M. Weber of 321 East Holm street. Definite plans lor the wedding have not been made.

Cadet Weber has been spending the holidays here and left this morning for the-Naval Air Base at Pcnsacola, Fla. Initiation Service At OES Friday Night -or Two New Members An impressive iniatiation serv- ce for two new members, Mrs. William Brenton and Mrs. C. C.

Mildred, was held at the regular meeting of the Mexico chapter of the Order of Eastern Star Friday night. Mrs. Lawrence Precnt, worthy matron, was in charge of the service, assisted by her corps of officers. Two members. Mrs.

Alice Curtis and Mrs. Mildred Greenup, were also affiliated into the chapter. Yearly reports were given, and at the close of the meeting, Mrs. J. F.

Jolley, chairman of the hospitality committee, was in charge of serving refreshments to the 60 members attending. Mrs. Elizabeth Starnes of Hondo, Texas, and Mrs. Beulah Elliott of the Santa Fe chapter were guests. Mrs.

Fitzmier Honored At A Surprise Shower Mrs. Robert Fitzmier was sur- prized at a pink and blue shower Thursday evening given by Mrs. James Danser at her home with Mrs. Robert Mclntosh as her assisting hostess. Shower gifts were arranged in a wishing well, and later refreshments were served by the two hostesses.

Littleby WSCS Program Planned By Mrs. Reichers The Littleby Methodist Woman's Society of Christian Service met with Mrs. Robert Hook Thursday afternoon with Mrs. Mary Stuart as co-hostess. Mrs.

Charles Lierheimer, president, was in charge of the business session. Mrs. Stuart gave the devotional service and Mrs. George Rei-1 chers planned the program, "Re-, cause We Have Been So Greatly She was assisted by Mrs. Lierheimer, Mrs.

Lindell Elliott, Mrs. Edwin Lierheimer and Mrs. John Farris. After the group sang "A Charge to Keep," the Lord's Prayer was prayed in unison. Secret pal gifts were exchanged and refreshments were served.

The February meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Byron Shoemaker with Mrs. Wesley Pehle as co-hostess. Others present were: Mrs. F' gene Beedle, Mrs.

and Mrs. 1 Harry Witt returned Thursday from Mayview, where they had visited since Christmas with their daughter, Mrs. Earl Lockhart and family. Mr. and Mrs.

Louis Schmidt were host and hostess for a family dinner on New Year's Day in observance of the 47th anniversary of their marriage and the 16th wedding anniversary of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Schmidt and flic llth wedding anniversary of their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Ross of Mexico.

Other guests were their other daughter, Mrs. Leo Vogt, Mr. Vogt and their three children and O. D. Putman.

Mrs. Claude Turner received a message on New Year's Day telling her of the death of her brother, Charley Heater, which occurred at his home in Don- aUdson, Iowa, that day. He was 77 age and a native of Illinois. He came to this community as a small child with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs.

George Heater, and lived here lor a number of years. Surviving also are a son, -a daughter of Donaldson, a brother, Gip Heater of Wappapello, Iowa. Mrs. Dick Remley of Laddonia is aniece. Funeral and burial services were in Donaldson on Thursday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Chester Avery have had a letter.from their son, Pfc. Delbert Avery, telling of his arrival in Korea where he is with the Quartermasters Corp. He sailed from the States the first part of December.

The regular meeting of the Merri-Rummy club was held in the home of Mrs. Marvin Cox Wednesday afternoon with score favors going to Mrs. C. B. Faw Mrs.

A. G. Cheney and Mrs Kenneth Gore. Mrs. Cox served a dessert course and coffee after the playing.

John Warren Day read the double ring ceremony at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon, December 29, in Grace Cathedral of Topeka, Kansas, uniting in marriage Miss Mary Jane Casper, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Taylor Casper, to Joe Fred Ware of Vandalia. The vows were exchanged in front of the altar, which held two large bouquets of white gladioli and banks of red poinsettias. The candle-lit church was decorated with Christmas greens.

Jerald Hamilton, organist, played a prelude of nuptial music preceding the service and the traditional wedding marches. C. J. McKee sang "The Lord's Prayer," and "Panis Angelicus" before the ceremony. At the close while the couple was kneeling, he sang, "A Perfect Love." Given in marriage by her father, the bride was gowned in white lace over satin, fashioned with a high neckline with a pointed collar, covered buttons to the waist in front of the fitted bodice, long pointed sleeves and full skirt extending into a train.

She wore around her neck two interlocking hearts of gold, made by her father for his parents' 50th wedding anniversary. Her illusion fingertip veil cascaded from a nylon half-hat, trimmed with embroidery and pearls. She carried a white Church of England prayer book which was a gift to the bride's great-great grandmother from her great great grandfather in 1806. The prayer book was covered with a shower of red feathered carnations with ivy and satin rib bon streamers. Miss Maryann Williams Kansas City was maid of honor and the bridesmaids were Miss Jean Wright of Winterset, la.

and Miss Jo Frederick of peka, Kansas. Their strapless gowns were red nvlon tulle over taffeta, made ballerina length. The dresses were styled with fitted bodices and pointed overskirts trimmed with tiny stems and leaves of gold, and voluminous skirts, with which they wore matching tulle stoles. A reception was held at the home of the bride's parents. Following a short wedding trip the couple returned to Columbia, where they are at home at 106 Lathrop Road. Mrs. Ware, a graduate of Topeka High School and Cottey College for Women at Nevada, is a senior at the University of Missouri. She is a member of Alpha Chi Omega social sorority and Pi Lambda Theta and Alpha Pi Zeta honorary societies, and Chapter CS, PEO.

Mr. Ware, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ware of Vandalia, attended Vandalia High School and the University of Missouri. He served two years in the Marine Corps and is now associated with the Life and Casualty Insurance company of Tennessee.

P-TA Founder's Day Program To Be Planned Plans for a joint meeting to observe Founder's Day will be made at a meeting of the Mexico Parent- Teacher Association Council to be held Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at Presser hall of Hardin Junior High School.

Mexico units will take part in the observance to take place in Februarv. Mrs. Frederick Schroeder is council president, and will be in charge meeting. the school house. Due to sickness and bad weather only a small crowd attended.

The McCormick Hospital in Moberly, of which Dr. P. O. Baker of this city is president of the staff, and Dr. R.

P. Roberts of this city is also a member of the staff has been approved for intern training by the Board of Trustees of the American Os- tebpathic Association. To be approved by the association for intern training the institution must meet the highest standard, which includes the physical plant, and the patients records have to be completed according to the standard set forth. The hospital staff must be organized and approved by the Bureau of Hospitals of the Board of Trustees of the American Osteopathic Association. Mrs.

Dale Hamilton and Mrs. T. C. Garrison of this city left this evening for Kansas City where they will attend the Spring Market in interest of Rena's Dress Shop. Carol Charming Due In St.

Louis Jan. 13 One of the most successful musical shows of recent years is coming to St. Louis with the original Broadway star and most of the original cast intact. The musical in question is "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" which ran for two years at the Ziegfeld Theatre, Carol Channing in the role of Lorelei Lee. the wide- eyed blonde from Little Rock, Arkansas, who took Paris in her stride.

Miss Channing will still be playing Lorelei when "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" opens a six-day engagement at the Opera House of Kiel Auditorium on Sunday evening, January 13, and chances are she will continue to bring down the house with her singing of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend." just as she did for two years on Broadway. Other members of the New York cast who remain with the show on tour are Jack McCaulcy. who created the role of her favorite admirer and benefactor, Shirl Cqnway, Erie Brotherson. and Mrs. Roy Wade and six children of Union, visited Mr. and Mrs. E. F.

Haycraft and Vliss Mabel Haycraft and Mr. ind Mrs. Ed French here during weekend. The Wade home at Union was damaged on the interior by fire last Friday which apparently started in a closet and burned the clothes belonging to the two older sons and damaged the furnishings of a part of the home. They will be forced to live else- whe're as damages to the bath and heating units were also suffered.

However, the Wades feel that they were very fortunate that the loss was not greater as they were not at home when the blaze started. Baptist GA Group Meets For Program The Junior Girls' Auxifiary of the Women's Missionary Society of the First Baptist church, met Thursday afternoon.
