H. CRON, Asst. Cashier i COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ARE FAVORABLE; WILL TALK MATTER TODAY? FUNSTON AT THE FRONT Funston seems 'to have luck in some ways, eyen though many have been jumped over him to higher rank. He got back from Cuba when' he had been scouting around, just in time to be appointed colonel in a volunteer company and his company was ont of three Kansas troops to be mobilized, but the Cuban trouble ended too soon, and the Twentieth went from San Francisco in time to get in on the ground floor of the Filipino uprising. Funston, with the aid of a fighting regiment, gained the rank of a brigadier general of volunteers, and liking the life, wanted a berth in the regulars.

It came with the main chance which led to the capture ot Aguinaldo in the wilds of Northern Luzon. He became a brigadier and was right on the spot when the San Francisco earthquake took place, adding to his fame by handling the situation with skill. Funston headed the expedition to Vera Cruz, which of course did not amount to much, but here he is now on the war path after Villa, and he will get him too, you can bet your sweet life on that. And all these things have come to this Kansas man, who is yet under fifty, but he has the Kansas spirit in him, and we will continue to hear from him at the front, will soon be better." No definite funeral arrangements have been made awaiting word from a brother in Oklahoma. Services will probably be held Sunday from the Methodist church, and interment will probably be at Burns, Kansas.
