Curt Gowdy Enterprises has agreed to buy WEAT-FM in West Palm Beach, Fla. The NBC sportscasters is full owner of the buying firm, which operates a Laramie, station, and of Curtis Gowdy Broadcasting, which operates stations in Lawrence, and Portsmouth, N. H. The Florida purchase is subject to FCC approval. LUCILLE BALL, who is restricting her CBS labors next season to a series of specials, is hoping to land Sophia Loren for Lucy's second Fall variety hour.

To that end, husband Gary Morton will be dispatched to Italy to negotiate with Sophia on her initial TV venture. Former Beacon Journal newsman Robert E. Hoyt has joined National Public Radio in Washington, D. where he will serve as executive producer for the broadcasting service's Peabody Award-winning daily news and feature show, "All Things Considered." In addition to his service with the Beacon Journal and with the Washington bureau of Knight Newspapers, Hoyt has public broadcasting experience with the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. (as public affairs producer), with Public Broadcasting Laboratory in New York (managing director), and more recently with the National Public Affairs Center for Television (as producer).

Hoyt also has served as managing director of News for Seattle's KING-TV, a CBS affiliate. Kent State University's WKSU-FM (89.7 mc) joined the National Public Radio network last Fall. As an NPR affiliate, the Kent State station will broadcast live all open sessions of the House Judiciary Committee's hearings on impeachment. Open hearings are to begin Tuesday, May 21, and will continue on Tuesday through Thursday basis into July. It is expected the House sessions will be convened at 10 a.

m. and 2, p. m. each day. WKSU-FM was the only local radio station to provide live coverage of the Watergate hearings in their entirety.
