Nixon's right arm for 22 years has been spattered by Watergate. Rose Mary Woods is a walking storehouse of facts on fair and foul-weather friends and buried bodies the last remaining member of Nixon's innermost official circle to survive the scandal. Her name 'surfaced in the saga of alleged White House misdeeds only 24 hours after Nixon promoted her from "personal secretary" to "executive assistant." That was June 14.

THE NEXT day the White House confirmed that Miss Woods fiercely loyal and tight-lipped, but feminine and attractive--was in possession of a secret list of Nixon's pre-April 7 campaign donors, ear bid for the eovernorship, to his New York law office, the ensuins presidential race and the White House. FRIENDS say Miss Woods never married because she is "wed to the job." But she gets around a good deal socially, often escorted by men who are politically ambitious or close to the President. One such was Fred Russell, the multimillionaire Californi-an who served as under secretary of the Interior and ambassador to Denmark. Another is well-to-do bachelor William Stover, onetime aide to former Sen. George Murphy.

She is a personal friend and onetime babysitter for Nixon daughters Tricia and Julie, as well as a political adviser to their father. More recently she became one of the first prominent tenants of the Watergate apartments to be robbed, and now keeps her valuables in a White House safe. "What a way to live," Miss Woods sighed then not realizing Watergate would plague her again.

m. Wednesday afternoon, over 50 high school musicians from four states and Canada will convene on the elegant green lawns of Western Reserve Academy in Hudson for "check-in" for the second annual Summer Music Experience (SME). For these youngsters, the day will merely be the warm-up to six weeks of private instrumental or vocal study with members of the Cleveland Orchestra and Blossom Festival School of Kent State University; six weeks of coaching in chamber music by professionals; six weeks of daily theory and literature classes; six weeks of concert and rehearsal attendance; six I weeks of practice, practice, practice. Hard work, sure. But these students know that's what learning music is all about, Like last year's SME enrol- I lees, the Class of '73 is eager i to begin making music.

"By the final week they were playing and singing and studying not because they were told to, but because they wanted to. It wasn't unusual for a group of friends to sit down at a moment's notice and break into a string quartet just for the fun of it." During SME's maiden voyage, students formed an orchestra, chorus, chamber choir, and various ensembles that performed 15 different concerts during the five weeks. This year, Appling reports, there will be even more performances.

"Music is best appreciated through participation," he says. Invaluable as well were the many "lively Interchanges" in and out of the classroom between students and guest artists, according to Mrs. Gene J. Roy, SME administrator. "Seth McCoy just wowed them," she says.

"He spent a lot of time listening to their problems. They found that he has experienced many of the same problems in his own career." "Be selfish enough to pursue that which gives you inner joy, then share it with others" was the singer's parting message. In a single stimulating afternoon with composer Donald Erb, the young musicians learned about avant-garde techniques, learned how to "prepare" a piano, even a bit of applied musical psychology- With the lights turned off, Erb improvised short phrases at the keyboard, asking, "What does this suggest to 72431 62101 "Heat" setting dries normal fabrics quickly "Air Only" fluffs pillows, dries rainwear 12101 Prices In Effect Today Thru July 14 16-Cu. This year a host of Ohio foundations as well as individuals and Ohio Arts Council have given substantial material support to SME, Indicating a broad public has already been made aware of the program's importance. Developing individual potential, says Appling, is what SME is all about: "We're giving the student a unique opportunity to grow as a musician and as a person. That's what teaching is all about reaching the total person, letting, him be himself, not just repeating someone else's formulas." WRA recently took a poll of its 1972 graduates, and the opinions expressed were most interesting. One girl wrote that before enrolling in SME she had been considered a "freak" at home because she liked serious music. "Thanks to the program she brought back new confidence and knowledge," says Mrs.

Roy. One student is graduating from high school a year early to enroll as a physics major at Cast Institute and take oboe from John Mack, principal oboist of the Cleveland Orchestra. Two other SME grads travelled to Columbus last week to present the Szell-Cleveland recordings of the Beethoven symphonies to Gov.
