The district office determined Morradio had inappropriately moved the transmitting antenna from the licensed site to another site. The district office issued a notice of violation to Morra- dio on Dec. 23, 1996, citing the station for the unauthorized change in antenna location and requesting a written response demonstrating corrective actions taken to resolve violations. According to the FCC letter, Morradio responded Jan.

13, 1997, noting it had contacted an engineering firm to correct the tower site violation and would file a corrective construction permit application by Feb. 28, 1997, but it did not do so. The back-and-forth between Morradio and the FCC continued through the late 1990s and into the 2000s, including violations in Janu- ary 2000 for failure to license changes in the antenna location and for failure to install and maintain Emergency Alert System equipment. The Ellers purchased WLMA in 2007 and, according to Anne Eller, were aware of the myriad of issues Morra- dio had with the FCC. Anne Eller said she and Jeff Eller were hoping to be able to rectify those issues.

We have worked with our lawyers. We spent a boatload of money on getting this and, of course, we improved the station and did all of this stuff. five years we have been paying fines and paying all these things to get these things straight.

Then, Tuesday, the FCC said they were going to harpoon it, and it was Anne Eller said her attorneys have informed her they could continue to fight the FCC on the matter, but the process would be expensive and there are no guarantees. WCRS has roughly the same format talk radio as WLMA. Anne Eller said she and Jeff Eller knew the FCC might one day pull the plug on WLMA, so they had that in mind when they purchased WCRS a couple years ago. we know (the FCC ending WLMA) was a possibility? Anne Eller said. we buy WCRS as another station, but also as a contingency plan? Yes, Anne said it (her) heart something to have to turn off WLMA 1350 Wednesday morning.

However, she said she is looking forward to continuing operations at WCRS 1450 and insisted that station is in fine standing with the FCC. is up to snuff and perfect (with she said. Bluegrass legend Earl Scruggs passed away Wednesday morning at the age of 88 because of natural causes.

The legacy he helped build with bandleader Bill Monroe, guitarist Lester Flatt and the rest of the Blue Grass Boys was evident all around Nashville, where he died in an area hospital. His string-bending, mind- blowing way of picking helped transform a regional sound into a national passion. Country music has transcended its regional roots, become a billion-dollar music and tourist enterprise and evolved far beyond the classic sound Monroe and The Blue Grass Boys blasted out over the radio on The Grand Ole Opry on Dec. 8, 1945. Born Jan.

6, 1924, in Flint Hill, N.C., Scruggs learned to play banjo at age 4. He appeared at age 11 on a radio talent scout show. By age 15, he was playing in bluegrass bands. In 1992, Scruggs was among 13 recipients of a National Medal of Art. EARL SCRUGGS.
