Warrior trackmen to run in Kangaroo Relays Friday, March 20, 1970 The Warrior track team will compete in the Kangaroo Relays in Weathcrford tomorrow as the Tribe will be seeking to improve its showing, although the previous two track meets SGP has participated in have ended up with two sixth places in fields of 26 and 15 respectively. Dennis Doughty was the big winner for the Tribe in last weeks Possum Kingdom Relays at Graham when he ran a 49.4 in the 440 yard run for a first place. Doughty also ran an anchor leg of 50.2 in the Warriors mile relay team that captured third place. Darrel Stewart ran a 55.2, Randy Cothran a 52.3, and Dennis Mayo a 59.4 in the event. Randy Cothran ran a 22.6 for first place in the 220 yard dash to add to the Warriors total of 48 points.

Cothran also ran with Doughty, Mayo, and Gordon Guinn for a fifth place in the 440 yard dash with a 44.0 clocking. Mike Spears, the teams captain, ran a 4.43.5 for a third place in the mile run. David Easterling took a fifth place in the 120 yard highs with a 16.4 clocking. Tomorrow, Damon Fulton will be the only pole vaulter for SGP while Larry Bolin, David Fatheree, and Bubba London will put the shot for the Tribe. Bolin and his brother, Gary, will join Steve Woods in the discus throw.

The 330 yard intermediates will be run by David Harmon, George Adams, and David Easterling. Mike Neely. Guinn, and David White will compete in the 880 run for the Tribe while White will join Spears in the mile run. Easterling, Doughty, and Cothran will broadjump for the Tribe. Coach Tommy Horton expressed pleasure in the results of last weeks Possum Kingdom Relays, but he added that the field events kept the Warriors from finishing higher in the standings as all the Tribe's points came in running events.

The Tribe will leave the SGP campus at 6 a.m. and will not return until the finals are over. The finals are due to start at 6 p.m. and are expected to end around 9 p.m. The district trackmeet will be held in Everman on April 11 at the schools new tartan track.

Daily News Photo UTA big Blue annual game set The Blue team, made up of the No. 1 offensive and defensive units, will be a strong favorite Saturday night when the University of Texas at Arlington stages its annual spring Blue-White football game. Kickcff will be 7:30 p.m.

in Memorial Stadium. The game is under the sponsorship of the UTA Ex-Letterman's Club with all proceeds going to the Bubba Garner Memorial Scholarship Fund. Tickets are $1 for adults and 50 cents for students and will be available at the gate. Fourteen lettermen dot the starting 22 for the Blues while the sophomore studded White team doesn't own a single numeral winner, no seniors and jsut two juniors in the first 22. The Blues will start eight seniors, seven juniors and seven sophomores.

On offense, lettermen are tackles Philip Berry (218) and Don Morrison (255), guards Tommy Davis (212) and Emory Estes (228), end Mike Lowery (207), flanker Ronnie Lucas (170) and quarterback Dave Taylor (187). Berry, Morrison, Davis, Estes and Lucas were regulars last fall and Taylor drew two starting calls. Non-let termen in the offensive alignment are end Joe Bellar (190), center Maurice Hitchcock (208), tailback Bryan Lancaster (170) and fullback Billy Wray (195). Hitchcock is a senior, Wray a junior and Lancaster and Bellar sophomores. Defensively, the Blues own lettermen in ends Sid Bailey (221) and Milton Davis (220), tackly Lynn Malone (220), linebackers Fred Bolton (220) and Chris Ortman (201) and halfbacks Robert Evans (170) and Ernest Baptist (170).

All except Malone were regulars last fall. Non-lettermen in the first 11 are tackle Rusty Moore (225), linebacker Gary Cough (210), rover Fred Bunte (190) and safety Mike Shiflett (180). Gough is a junior, the others sophomores. Freshman David Farris (216) at center is the only non-soph on the White offensive unit. Joining him in the line are ends Brent Beesley (175) and Kent Hibbitts (195), tackles Terry Moore (202) and Marvin Porter (195) and guards Charlie Pritchett (205) and Steve Davis (220).

Quarterback Tony Wilson (180), tailback Robert Hill (182), fullback Sid Sims (190) and flanker Art Tillotson (175) are the starting backs. GP track and field ready for Mesquite The weatherman has ruled baseball diamonds this week as rain has forced can cellatinn of numerous contests. Monday the South Grand Prairie Warriors were slated to play a non-district tilt but were forced to cancel and Tuesday they were scheduled to open district competition only to be foiled by the weather again. Also Tuesday the SGP team was slated to play but the contest was called. Tuesday the CPUS Gophers had planned to play a non-district tilt; bul after Monday's downpour, the game was postponed. In addition to the high schools, the University of Texas at Arlington was unable to keep a committment against the Texas Christian Horned Frogs on Tuesday.

Several Gopher sprinters have been hobbled by injuries for the past several weeks, but it is expected that several of them will be back in action Saturday. Last weekend the Prairians had an open date in their schedule. Pat Scoggins has recorded a 10.2 in the 100-yard dash and Gerald Daniels has registered a 14.8 in the 120-yard high hurdles for the best times registered in District 6-AAAA this season. The Gopher 440- yard relay team has posted a 42.4. Others registering times or records to place them among the top performers in the district are James Allen with a 4: 41.2 in the mile run and a 10: 22.6 in the two-mile run and Gary Pittman with a discus hurl of 137.2'/».
