M. Houae Calla by Appbinlment VALLEY, July The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Cyni Goudge treated them to a surprise charivari and shower last Saturday evening. After a pleasant evening spent in visiting and playing games, refreshments were served.

The bride and groom were the recipients of many useful presents. Mrs. Gns Page has been seriously ill during the past week. Her condition is better now and is steadily Improving. As Jack WInsby was coming down from Laytonvllle last Wednesday he was crowded off the grade by a truck.

He suffered several severe bruises, and a party traveling with him was badly Mr. Winsby's Chevrolet was badly damaged. Elmer Lampi was driving Charley Palos' Ford one day last week when an axle broke and the car turned over backwards. There were several girls in the car. Fortunately ail escaped with minor bruises.

Mr. and Mrs. 'Geo. Stevens are enjoying a month's vacation in the bay cities. The Finnish colony thresher opened thp season last week.

They soon threshed out the valley's acreage, which was unusually small this year. Those threshing were the Finnish colony, Clifford Smith, J. A. Pord, E. J.

Aalto, Peter Fernbach, Will Finho and John Finne. Very good yields are reported for the acreage harvested. The thresher and tractor were shipped to Hopland and then come on up the Ukiah valley. Mr. and Mrs.

A. R. Sprague left last week in Mr. Sprague's Ford for a visil with their son at Modesto. Mr- and Mrs.

Martin Laforet have been staying at the school house of nights during Mr. Sprague's absence. Clifford Smith and Alec Kauhanen have accepted appointments as fire wardens for Redwood valley. There was an attendance of 31 at Sunday school last Sunday. Ferd Faas has recently painted his house.

Mrs. H. Gunderson returned from San Francisco last Friday. Mr. Gunderson is in poor health, so Mrs.

Gunderson will remain at home. H. J. Matthews returned day from a trip to San Francisco and, Modesto. He reports tinies very iull down that way.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Buckman and daughter, Elizabeth, left Tuesday for a two or three weeks' trip to Tahoe. They were accompanied on the trip by Mrs. Floyd Gibson, whp joined them at Santa Rosa.

They will also make a visit to their son, Clare Buckman, at Truckee, who will join them on a trip through Nevada. Mrs. E. Duncan, motored to Ukiah Tuesday. Mrs.

Lizzie McKoon and sons and Mrs. Carrlngtoh and son, of Santa Rosa, left the last of the week after at the R. L. Buckman home, for an extended trip through Oregon, Washington and British Columbia and home by way of the Yellowstone Hale Burger, one of the substantial ranchers of the Yorkville section, was here Tuesday on a short business trip. locus B.

F. Beasley, of Sacramento, is visiting Rev. L. C. Beasley and family this tfeek.

Frank Gowan and wife and George Ward: and wife returned the latter part of last week from several days' ylsit in San Elmer Albertson has been con-, fined to his Home the past two on account of which, while not dangerous, is suifflcient to keejp' him in bed, owing to his previous weakened condition. Mr. and Mrs. George Ryan came up from Scbastopol the first of the week and have been visiting relatives and friends here. Mrs, Ryan was formerly Miss Chlorene Copsey ot this city.
