I Two weeks agn in a Idler to City Council. Venice Harry J.

Miller reported that another in- spection was made of I lie nor! bend I tank ami it was found be xo per cent rusted on the interior service, i Council then voted to -hire llershel i Nrshitt of this city to check the tank and his report was submitted at the Tuesday evening meeting of Council. TANK NEEDS Nesbitt reported that a minimum of 30 per cent of the interior of the tank is in immediate repair and that 50. per cent has a creeping growth of rust. lie also stated that the viscosity of the coating in the tank is minus and that mineral M'llimcnt of the coating i- high. The report (-nncerniiig the ex- tciim ni the tank listed thai burn 'linr to welding repair' v.cie nni iciently ck'iined and of ihe red lead primer icieiit drying time.

He t-aul that touch-tips of the paint been made without the use of primer, and that a rust deteriora- i ion started on the tank. WILL MAKK REPAIRS Mi. KeeM' told councilmen that she tank was sandblasted and the interior coated by his men in 155 and then inspected and touched up last year ami that, he can not understand why there should be such deleriorat ion. "What, 1 am sure about is thai we didn't know the tank was in bad shape," Mr. Reese said and "1 am willing to send a crew here and make repairs at no cost to the city." He added too, that "I vill have to believe the man we sent up here concerning the condition of the tank as the material used is endorsed by the American Waterworks 1 lie also stated that a joint maintenance contract for the two tanks would cost the city $1375 annually and would include complete coverage on the elevated northern! tank but not the stand pipe.

He- cause of the condition of the latter hi could not assume responsibility. Mr. Reese also stated that what claimed to be rusted In the tank apparently a "rusty" corrosion that is in the city's water as it comes from the ground. lie also said he would like to satisfy himself of the job. Former Service Director Edmund C.

Wurst was at the meeting and told councilmen that two years ago Nesbitt had said that tank didn't need welding and now he claims that it is 30 per cent in need of repair. He also said that while the tank was being repaired in Ilifjf) he (Wurst) had a man in the tank at all times. Mr. Reese also stated that he resented the fact, that they were not notified of the need of repair on the tank and that, there was dis- sention with the work. "We want you satisfied before you drop MS," he said.

CITY'S F.U'LT Councilman Robert Bonifas told I Mr. Reese that the biggest error made was when the contract was dropped by the city and t-hat he considered the present situation no fi.ult of the I'niversal Construction Company. It. was voiciil that the reason Mr. Reese firm was not notified was because there was no I contract for maintenance.

Before leaving Mr. Reese stated, "I am very sorry it happened and I sorry there is so much dill'erence of opinion." He made one final re- i quest, that the city secure a qualified man to inspect the lank ater they are through making repairs.
