Reno Evening Gazette Saturday, Dec 24, vm Council to get expansion requests Life isn't barren of Reno friendship of Governments approved a review procedure for major developments to give local governments more control over the booming growth in the county. The purpose of the review guidelines is to provide a method of slowing down the development until community service needs and housing can catch up with the demand. The Reno City Council Tuesday will bear requests for hotel or casino expansion plans from the Eldorado Hotel-casino, the Sundowner Hotel-casino and the Club Cal Neva. The Sundowner and Eldorado are asking for additional sewer capacity, and the Cal Neva is requesting an air rights lease to construct a walkway over Lincoln Alley downtown. The Eldorado has plans to add a 162-room wing to the present 282-room hotel.

The total sewer capacity needed is 11,865 gallons per day. Anything over 10,000 gallons requires special council review. The Sundowner is requesting exemption from completed plans it submitted for a 255-room addition to its current 350-room hotel and that it be placed on the waiting list for sewer allotments. The Sundowner already is building a casino addition with sewer capacity originally used by a small motel it demolished next to the Sundowner on Fourth Street. The Cal Neva, in a letter to the city, noted it plans to build a skyway over Lincoln Alley to connect the present casino to what is now Armanko's stationery store.

Jack Douglass, secretary-treasurer of the club, said there are no completed plans for the addition, but the plans will be provided if the request for the air rights over the alley are granted. The council also will discuss recently-adopted review guidelines for major developments. The Washoe Council a fQ Loretta Mendenhall's Reno apartment might be barren of furniture, but her life isn't barren of friendship. Since a newspaper article appeared in which she told of a moving company's failure to deliver her furniture when promised, Mrs. Mendenhall has received sympathetic telephone calls and invitations to Christmas dinners.

"Mrs. Barbara Drew of Herlong, called and invited me for Christmas dinner," Mrs. Mendenhall said Friday. "She told me Herlong is about 50 miles from here, but she said she'd come and pick me up and bring me back. I thought that was exceptional." Mrs.

Mendenhall had planned to be in Minneapolis with her son's family to enjoy her new grandson's first Christmas. Instead, she says, she will spend the holiday season in her rocking chair, which, in addition to a bed she purchased, is her only furniture. Mrs. Mendenhall said she was told by the Aero Mayflower Transit Co. that her furniture would be delivered Dec.

12. "Now the date they tell me is Dec. 27, but now I don't believe anything they tell me. Mrs. Mendenhall turned down other invitations to spend Christmas with Reno area residents who telephoned her after reading of her problems.

"I'm going to sit here by the telephone, because I'm expecting to hear from friends in the East," she said. "But I'm so glad there has been such a response. There is warmth and generosity among people in general, and I think this is a characteristic of Americans. I'm very grateful to the people who did call." Saturday. December 24, 1977 7:00 P.M.
