Forest Service in a swap for more than 2,000 acres of federal land around the-Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area. The Forest Service took over the management of the state park, which lies north of the eastern portion of the San Gorgonio Wilderness, on May 1. The land exchange, in, the planning process for more than three years, means the acquisition for the state of more than 2,000 acres of federal land around Silverwood Lake, located eight air miles west of Lake Arrowhead. Ownership of property around the lake formerly was divided between the federal and state governments and somewhat resembled a checkerboard. The lake is one of the reservoirs in the State Water Project.

The difference In the land swap is the result of different values of the land, said a USFS spokesman, who added that land exchanges require equal total value for the parcels. Both sites will accommodate a maximum group size of 40 people. The fee is $20 per night for each site. Gist, born when his family lived upstairs above what today is The Goodie Shop on State street; joined his father, L. W. Gist, in the brick, stone and cement contracting in 1913 and the, business was known as L. W. Gist and Son.

Ben continued in the business throughout his lifetime. He married Emily Bennett, who camp here from Missouri in 1923, in Los Angeles in 1926. Mr. Gist was a member of Redlands Elks lodge. He leaves his wife, Emily; two daughters, Mrs.

Connie Shuster of Yucaipa and Mrs. Gay Farrington of San Bernardino; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Field and Mrs. Margaret Buchl, both of Redlands-; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m.

Norma Johnson dies here at age of 91 Norma Imogene Johnson, a Redlands resident for 73 years and widow of Capt.

A. G. Johnson who died in 1941, died here Saturday at the age of 91. Mrs. Johnson was the mother of George K.

Johnson, Redlands high school teacher for many years, who died in 1975. She was-born in Moscow, and was active in Red Cross office work during both World Wars I and II. Following WWII, Mrs. Johnson was Home Service secretary for the Red Cross for Korean servicemen. She was employed as a clerk at Norton Air Force Base for 10 at the age of 80.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of the First Congregational church, a past president of Sapphire Rebekah lodge, past president of the Auxiliary to Veterans of the Spanish- American War and past president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She leaves a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Constance S. Johnson, Redlands; three children, George K.

Johnson III, Illinois; Robert Donald Johnson, San Jose, and Susan Johnson, Redlands; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the F. Arthur Cortner chapel with Rev. John D.

If buil(, the line would connect with the line proposed Standard Oil of Ohio. The purpose of SOHIO system would be to receive'Alaskah Oil from 'tankers at Long' Beach and pump it to Midland, Texas, for refining and farther distribution. A pumping plant in San Timoteo canyon, on the border of Redlands, is proposed. Also, a maintenance yard closer to town.

The Navy will hold public hearings.in six locations in Southern California on its Draft Environmental, Impact Statement for proposed pipeline construction from Elk Hills, at Tupman. Construction of. a line is required by the Naval Petroleum Reserves Production act of 1976. Three alternative routes from Elk Hills are proposed: Coalinga, with connections to existing pipelines. Port Huenetiie i Ventura Colton.

Copies of the Impact Statement are available for inspection at the Colton library (380 North La Cadena drive) and at the County Library (104 West Fourth street, San Bernardino.) The public hearing for this area will be held at the San Bernardino Convention Center May 26, 9 a.m. to 2 to 5 p.m.; and beginning at 7 p.m. Construction of the SOHIO pipeline from Long Beach to Midland is proposed, but is far from settled because of various Great Circus discount coupons obtained from Gair's and circus performers, may be exchanged for reserved seat at the YMCA daily, beginning today, between 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. for the four evening performances on May 13, 14, 20, and 21 and the two special matinee performances on May 15 and 21.
