Monday, The University of Akron's WAUP-FM will be audible for 20 miles in all directions. That's roughly to the Summit-Cuyahoga County line on the north, Edinburg in Portage County on the east, Medina on the west and Massillon to the outh. The station will operate from studios on the AU campus from 6 to 10 p. m. Monday through Friday.

You can find it at 88.1 megacycles on the FM dial. ALL programming, scheduling, announcing and station engineering duties will be handled by students in the Radio Workshop, a function of the University's speech department. Mrs. Phyllis Ilarden-stein, speech instructor, is faculty adviser. The studio is in "Since you agree that If one's date is temporarily short, It's all right to offer him money, how about some?" Planning for the debut of WAUP-FM goes back to the late 1930s. Monday's 6 p. m. sign on will be followed at 6:02 by 13 minutes of campus news of interest to the community. First non-news program will be a lesson in Italian given by Robert Monaci, language instructor in Bath Richfield Schools. It will not be a classroom credit course.

The rest of the first night's program includes the start of a series on "The Federal Government and Higher Education" at 6:30, a discussion of James Fenimore Cooper's novel 'The Redskins" at 6:45, a program of Broadway show overtures at 7, a student production of Archibald Mac-Leish's radio play "The Fall of the City" at 8, a taped concert from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N. Y. at 8:30, and a recorded recital by Leontyne Price at 9:30. Sign off is at 10. OTHER locally produced shows set for the first week will include an art commentary at 6:15 p.
