Williamsburg Tows Official City and Marguerite Smith of Cedar dinner guests in the Herb pids were Stohlmann home on Monday. Marengo Couple Celebrates 59th Anniversary -Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bladen will celebrate their MARENGOfifty-ninth wedding anniversary at the home of their son, Walter, Thursday, Dec. 28.

Mr. Bladen was born in Akron, Ohio, Nov. 1.6, 1855. When he was still quite small, he came with his parents to LaSalle Ill. They later moved to Dwight, Ill.

Mr. Bladen recalls how his father sold a saddle horse of which the son was particu- fond to the Dr. Keeley who larly founded the K'eeley Institute. In August 1876, he came to Iowa ty and located on a farm two miles west of Marengo, with his parents. Dec.

28, 1880, he married Lucy Shriver, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Shriver, at her parents' home in a double wedding cereMrs. Bladen's brother, Amos mony. now deceased, was married with them.

They were married on the farm where thir son now lives. Mrs. Bladen was born near South Olive, Ohio, and came to Iowa with her parents in 1867. They settled on a farm five miles southwest of Marengo. She attended the rural schools in that community.

In 1884, the young couple moved to Coleridge, Nebr. They built their home on the wild prairie there. Later Mr. Bladen entered business in Coleridge. For twenty-four years he conducted a furniture and undertaking business.

In 1918 they returned to Marengo. A year later they built the house in which they now live. Mr. Bladen is a member of the Marengo Masonic lodge and his wife has been a member of the Marengo chapter of 0. E.

S. They are the parents of two sons, Walter of Marengo and Ernest of Los Angeles, and two foster daughters, Mrs. John Shields of Belle Plaine and Mrs. Loren Baker of Coleridge, nine grandchildren. grandchildren and three great OHIO By Mrs.

Charley Smith, Orville Scandridge, Howard Ollmyer, John Gahring, Gene Tanner, Ralph Rohr and Smith of Victor helped John Haas last week make a cistern.

MI's. John Haas and daughter Eunice, Mrs. Kettell and Pauline Autry were in Marengo Sunday ternoon attending the program high school. Naomi and Dale Scandridge Sunday with Jean and Myron Kinz- Mr. and Mrs.

Verlyn Davis family spent Saturday evening the Willis Davis home. A large number attended the dies aid at the Ed Dietrich home Thursday. The ladies quilted. Mr. and Mrs.

The Parnell reserves lost to the English lads second team 13-8. Conroy Games CONROY---The Conroy girls basketball team defeated the Hartwick girls team on the home floor Tuesday evening by a score of 36-30. The Conroy girls led at the half The Conroy boys team played home game the same evening and were defeated by Parnell 27-10.

The Conroy team led at the half 9-8. On Thursday evening the John's first and second teams Victor came to Conroy and won two games. The second team score ing 8-4 and the first team score 15. Both games were close throughout. in the Guardian Mortuary for Mrs. Sarah E. Whitchill, 73, who died suddenly at her home here at 10:30 p. m. Wednesday.

The Rev. Frank Paul Hladky will be in charge of the service and burial will be in the I. 0. 0. F.

cemetery. Mrs. Whitehill was born Sarah E. Long, daughter of Albert M. and Julia M.

Lone, one mile southeast of Williamsburg, January 1, 1866. She received her education in the Williamsburg schools. On March 26, 1884 she was married to Charles M. Whitehill, brother of the late Clarence Whitehill, member of the Metropolitan Opera Company, at the home of her parents in the house where she WAS born. The couple lived on a farm south of Wililamsburg for one year and then moved to Marengo.

They were the parents of one son, Ralph Whitehill, now of Des Moines, who survives her. Mr. Whitehill died March 8, 1928. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Wilson of Los Angeles, Califand ornia and Maxine of Chicago; one brother, W. R.

Long of Wilvis- liamsburg. Three sisters and brothers preceded her in death. Mrs. Whitehill is a member the Presbyterian church in Marengo. Felton were Cedar Rapids visitors, W.
