Jones, the host, has been a headliner in a number of Disney films. For some televiewers, it might seem a bit odd that a program about the Disney achievements is airing so late at night.

And that's a legitimate point. But anyone who has ever been to Disneyland has probably noticed the remarkable number of adult visitors. Day in and day out, this simple fact is continuing proof of the unceasing Disney influence. Collectors items with any market value at all could be reproduced and sold as originals without fear of reprisal because there were no laws against it The older or rarer the article the easier it was to reproduce and, in many cases, the "legal copy" was so well made, it was impossible to distinguish from the original. Some copies have even been known to command a much higher price than the original although its authenticity was in doubt at the time of purchase. HulLT CUPS byMort Reed Whether or not it will ever be possible to completely eradicate this practice is questionalbe, but with the passing of Senate Bill S-1880 Congress will have taken a giant step in that direction. Unfortunately, it covers only two categories out of the thousands in the hobby industry: numismatic items coins, tokens, medals, wooden and paper money, script, legal documents and political items such as campaign material, political buttons and souvenirs. The new bill will make it mandatory that all reproduc- tins be clearly labeled as to date of production.

Regarding coins, the bill specifies that the manufacture in the United States, or importation of any imitation numismatic item which is not plainly and permanently marked "COPY," is unlawful and is an unfair or deceptive act (under) the Federal Trade Commission Act." Enforcement of the law is left to the Federal Trade Commission. The legislators' intentions are good, but about all this bill will do is drive the manu- Losing 20 pounds for surgery By LAWRENCE LAMB, M.D. DEAR DR. LAMB A deteriorating hip socket makes walking painful, and I have been advised to keep off it. No replacement is recommended until 20 pounds are lost.

This I've been unable to accomplish possibly because of this inactivity. Will you tell me please, in calories, how little I can eat safely? I'm in good health generally speaking, 77 years old, no hearing difficulty, thread a needle without glasses and sleep well. I'm five-foot nine and weight 180 pounds. To prevent becoming incapacitated (am now on a walker) and a care to the family, the replacement seems necessary, so the weight loss must be made, should be, of course, anyway. I will deeply appreciate your advice.

DEAR READER You do have a problem. It is difficult enough to lose weight on a the diet. It will take five months for you to lose your 20 pounds. Exercise helps some, but an average 150 pound person only uses an additional 60 calories in walking a mile. So, it is a slow process.

Nevertheless, if you can figure out a way to exercise while you are dieting it will help, and you will be in better shape for surgery when the time comes. I don't know if you can swim or not, or if pools are available to you. Exercise in water is a good way to help people who can't walk. Swimming uses a lot of calories. is Burglar trouble LOS ANGELES (UPI) -It's not every family that has their home burglarized and comes out ahead.

A repentant thief stole three coats from a Bel-Air area home but "felt so bad about the whole thing" that he returned the coats, wrote the victims an apologetic note and left them $50 for all the trouble. James Lipow, 18, Culver City, then turned himself into police, who booked him on suspicion of burglary. Even if you can't swim, some exercises in a pool will help. If there is a physiotherapy or physical medicine section in any of your nearby hospitals they could help you with such a program. I don't know how limited you are, but if your doctor thinks you can sit on a stationary bicycle you can bicycle at home and help to exer- sensible diet when you can be active.

Also, any diet you use should be such as to keep your health in good shape for surgery. Specifically, I don't think anyone should be on less than a 1200-calorie diet, except under very careful medical supervision. At that level, if you-are careful, you can get enough vitamins and minerals. You might be well off to take a daily vitamin tablet anyway if you restrict your diet to that level. Then you will need to concern yourself with mostly the protein and mineral problems.

You should include in your diet a quart of fortified skim milk a day to give you enough calcium, and it will also help out your protein intake. If you are inactive you very likely don't use much more than 1800 calories a day. That means on 1200 calories a day you will be losing only 600 calories daily or just about the number of calories in one pound of fat for each week of cise this way. What is left is a lot of less effective exercises using the arms and upper body. If you can develop the strength to do these for a relatively long period of time, they will help to burn calories.

Many thin people are thin not because they eat less, but because they are never still making continuous small movements, and this adds up over the day. If your doctor wants you to lose 20 pounds before surgery, I'm sure he will help you get to people who can help you with your diet and an activity program suitable for you. The only way the American lobbyist can hope to win is through is own diligence. The law is there and the penalties are there. All we have to do is see to it that every questionable case is brought to the attention of the Federal Trade Commission.
