5 and 7. If you are able to help, call 358-2544. The Ladies Retreat, with a theme of Teatime with God, will be held the weekend of Oct. 24-26 at Long Valley Resort in Cromburg, Calif. Cost will be about $30.

The parish continues to collect new clothing and school supplies for children going back to school. When buying for your own family, add a package of socks or underwear or other items to your purchase. Collection baskets are in the entry. The Senior Joy Luncheon is Wednesday at 1 1 a.m. Lasagna, spaghetti with meatballs and dessert will be provided.

Share your own antipasto, appetizers or salad. Sparks United Methodist: From Wednesday until Rally Day on Sept. 7, the Sunday School classrooms need to be cleaned and the teachers' cabinets need to be cleaned and restocked with fresh supplies. If you can help, call 358-0925. The Youth Room Renovation Project will be worked on Saturday and Sunday.

Work will start at 1 p.m. on Friday and then will be finished on Saturday afternoon. The youth room will be painted. Wear old clothes and bring a paintbrush or paint roller. If you'd like to stay overnight, bring a sleeping bag, pillow, toiletries.

Also, wheels are needed for the foosball table and hinges are needed on the ping-pong table. Help the youth of the church by bringing your aluminum cans in for them to recycle. Please rinse them out ana bag the cans and put them in the kitchen on Sunday mornings. The youths will crush them. The Farmers' Market continues on Tuesday mornings in the church parking lot.

The market is open from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and will continue through Sept. 16. St. Paul's Episcopal: Come September, there will be some multi-generational worship and small study groups.

A list will be available next month. Exotic dancing classes offered If you are lured with the exotic thoughts of belly dancing, Sparks is the place to be. Sparks Parks and Recreation presents belly dancing with Saahira of Asha Belly Dancers. Classes are open to all between the ages of 15 and 100 at 98 Richards Way in the Recreation gym Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The first Session is now under way but there are many more classes offered.

Session 2 will be held Sept. 17 to Oct. 22. Session 3 will be held Jan. 7 to Feb.

11. Session 4 will be held Feb. 18 to March 24. Cost is $35 for residents and $42 for non-residents. For more information, call Mirjana at 353-7815.

Headed to the Nevada State Fair this week? If you go, take a look around and you'll see a number of volunteers who are seniors citizens. Yes, they'll be enjoying the exhibits and displays but more importantly, they will be volunteering their time as a fundraiser for the Senior Companion Program that is operating in the Sparks and Reno areas. According to Ron Rivera who helps with special events for the program, there will be about 75 volunteers manning two gates at the fair. In addition to the seniors, there will be members of the University of Nevada, Reno women's basketball team and volunteers from the Great Basin Credit Union and the Reno Singles Club. And all the wages that these folks would normally earn for their work will be donated to the program helping seniors.

There are a number of activities that the program supports for seniors including a dental program, eyeglasses, transportation to ana from appointments and the grocery store. They also collect and distribute clothing and furniture to seniors who are in need of such items. There is a long waiting list of senior citizens who would like companionship, and there are only 128 companions available. So, do you have about four hours a weeks that you could volunteer to help someone out? You must have your own transportation so you would be able to drive the seniors to the store or to an appointment. And, there is no charge to the senior citizen receiving the service.

The Senior Companion Program is located at 406 Pyramid Way, and their phone number is 358-2322. Vicki Kleinfeldt is the program director. New private school will open next week Registration is new under way for a new private school opening in Sparks next Monday, Aug. 25. Excel Christian School has lease classroom space at 740 Baring in the Baring West Shopping Center.

According to school administrator Jim Krupa, students will use the adjacent YMCA for sports, recreation, PE programs and breaks. The school can accommodate 50 to 80 students in grades K-12.
