A native of Oil City, she was bom Dec. 25, 1 9 1 7, to Daniel and Emily Wriberg McCready, and had lived in Yerington for the past 20 years, coming from California. Mrs. Baldwin was a homemaker. Surviving are brother, Daniel of Orangevale, Calif; and sister, Nevada Montgomery of Oceano, Calif.

Merle Otto Brennan A funeral for Merle Otto Brennan, 68, who died Dec. 3 1 Lenander of Golcta, Calif; daughters, Helen Thiel of Seattle and June Bell of Sacramento; nine grandchildren; greatgrandchildren; and 13 great-greatgrandchildren. 2, 1996, at Washoe Medical CenTer, is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ross, Burke Knobel Mortuary, Sparks. A native of Soloman he was born Feb. 2, 1 906, to Albert Byron and Mary Louise Shad Welch, and had lived in Sparks for the past 1 0 years, coming from San Francisco. Welch was a motel manager.

A brother, Clarence and a sister, Ida Beck, preceded him in death. Surviving are widow, Evelyn, and stepdaughter, Betty Smit, both of Sparks; sons, Hoyte of North Carolina and Albert of Washington state; daughter, Gladys Rowley and sister, Rosetta Volpa, both of California; stepsons, Bud Likes of Mississippi and Lee Roy Likes of Colorado; and stepdaughter, Loretta Likes of Reno. A funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with burial at Mountain View Cemetery. David Louis Yori David Louis Yori, 55, of Sparks, died Jan. 1, 1996, at Washoe Medical Center. Medical Center. A native of Berkeley, Calif, he was born Oct. 11 1 9 1 2, to Warren V.

and Elizabeth Markle Richardson, and was a longtime Nevada resident. Richardson was in business with his father at Richardson Lovelock Ford. He was a member of American Insitute of Mining Engineers and a president of Nevada Miners and Prospectors. He graduated from Tonopah High School and University of California, Berkeley. Surviving are son, W.

Mark of Reno, and three grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation will be at Sierra Crematory, under the direction of Walton Funeral Home, Reno. Cora Gage Sayre WELLINGTON Cora Gage Sayre, 98, died Jan. 1, 1996, at South Lyon Medical Center, Yerington.

A native of Smith, she was born Dec. 20, 1 897, to Harrington G. and Kate C. Sweetman Gage, and had lived in Wellington and Smith Valley all of her life. Mrs.

Sayre was a homemaker. She was a member of Smith Valley Homemakers, Friends of the Library, Lyon County Museum, charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars-Kermit H. Neddenriep Auxiliary and Community United Methodist Church, Smith Valley. Her husband, Andy, died in 1 973 and son, Melvin, in 1 964. Surviving are daughters, Eloise Kettenburg of Gardnerville and Geraldine Keeley of Wellington; son, Andrew of Smith; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 1 1 great-greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral is scheduled for 1 1 a.m. Saturday at the church, with burial at Hillcrest Cemetery, Smith Valley, under the direction of Freitas-Rupracht Funeral Home, Yerington. Bessie Marie Juhl Smith and Fctolafai Lavatai, and had lived in Incline Village for the past 1 6 years, coming from Hawaii. Lavatai moved to Incline Village in 1 979 to manage Pancho's Restaurant and later owned Hamburger Heaven.

He was a top fund-raiser in northern Nevada for two years in the ugly bartender contest to benefit Multiple Sclerosis research. A community volunteer, he taught racquctball and sponsored several Hawaiian style luaus for community events. A sister, Pulenga Lavatai, brother, LeRoy and parents, preceded him in death. Surviving are widow, Susie, daughter, Angelic Skipwith, son, Christopher and brother, Raymond, all of Incline Village; daughters, Nikki and Tasha Lavatai, sons, DeRoy Jr. and Kekoa, sisters, Winona and Kepa Lavatai and brother, Wesley, all of Honolulu; daughter, Deanne Learn of Belgrade, son, Michael of Irvine, Calif; brother, Herman of Phoenix; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday at the Chateau. A memorial trust fund is being established with First Interstate Bank, co Box 3023, Incline Village 89450. 1 1 996, in an automobile accident nearGardnerville. A native of Elgin, 111., he was born Feb. 25, 1 947, to John A. and Patricia Marie Schneider Lueder, and had lived in South Lake Tahoe since 1 974, coming from San Jose, Calif. Lueder owned and operated a construction company.

Surviving are widow, Pamela, and daughters, Cascade and Tiffany Lueder, all of South Lake Tahoe; son, Brett of Chico, Calif; sister, Pamela Pritchett of Campbell, Calif; brothers, Greg of Riverside, Calif, Mark of Ellensburg, Chris of San Jose, Brian of Gilroy, Calif, and Patrick of Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews; and one great-niece. Cremation will be under the direction of FitzHenry's Funeral Home and Crematory, Carson City. Inurnment is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday at Happy Homestead Cemetery. Friday at FitzHcnry's Funeral Home and Crematory. Cremation will be at the crematory, with private inurnment at a later date. David Park Hansen David Park Hansen, 60, died Jan. 3, 1 996, at his residence. A native of Reno, he was born Sept.

1 0, 1 935, to Elmer Park and Thelma Johnstone Hansen, and had lived in Reno all his life. He was a fourth-generation Nevadan of the Hansen and Johnstone families, who were early settlers in Carson Valley and Yerington. His parents preceded him in death and sister, Marilvn Gilbert, died in 1990. Hansen retired in 1994 from the City of Reno as a public works foreman. He was a member of Independent Order of Foresters and graduated from Bishop Manogue High School in 1953.

Surviving are companion, Theon Vawter, and stepsons, Michael and Richard Hansen, all of Reno; stepson, Glenn Hansen of San Jose, Calif; stepdaughter, Sue Elliott of Colchester, and three nieces. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church. Cremation will be at Masonic Memorial Gardens Crematory, under the direction of Ross, Burke Knobel Mortuary, Reno.

A memorial is being established with Reno Cancer Foundation, 77 Pringle Way, Reno 89502. James L. Hoover James L. Hoover, 82, died Jan. 2, 1996, at Washoe Medical Center.

A native of Nevada City, he was born April 2 7, 1 9 13, to William and Jessie Organ Hoover, and had lived in Reno since 1 953, coming from Anchorage, Alaska. Hoover was a vault cashier at Harolds Club for 29 years. Surviving are sons, Dennis, Michael Timothy J. and Jack White and daughter, Melissa Hoover, all of Reno; brothers, Norman of Forest Ranch, Calif, and Edwin of Lancaster, two grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren. Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m.

to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Walton Funeral Home, Reno. A funeral is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with private burial at Mountain View Cemetery. Rachelle Marie Cronk Krites CARSON CITY A memorial service for Rachelle Marie Cronk Krites, 22, who died Dec.

3 1 1 995, on U.S. Highway 395 in Douglas County after she jumped from a moving vehicle, is scheduled for 1 0 a.m. today at FitzHenry's Funeral Home and Crematory. A native of San Jose, Calif, she was born Aug. 28, 1 973, and had lived in Carson City for the past seven years, coming from Alaska.

Mrs. Krites was a homemaker. Surviving are husband, Cliff Van of Minden; son, Kyle, father, William Sanders Cronk, and brothers, Bill and Scott Cronk, all of Carson City and mother, Dorinda K. Nicholas of Wyoming. Cremation will be at the crematory, with private inurnment at a later date.

DeRoy Lavatai INCLINE VILLAGE DeRoy Lavatai, 5 1 died Dec. 29, 1 995, at Washoe Medical Center, Reno. A native of American Samoa, he was born Sept. 11,1 944, to Sani 1995, at Manor Care Nursing Center of Alzheimer's, is scheduled for 1 1 a.m. today at Ross, Burke Knobel Mortuary, Reno.

Brennan A native of Turlock, he was born Aug. 1 1 927, to William and Hedvig Peterson Brennan, and had lived in Reno since March 1937, coming from Turlock. Brennan was an auto mechanic and owned several auto dealerships and commercial properties. He was also a professional race car driver and is credited with helping to start the hot rod movement in the Reno area. He began his racing career in 1 956 under the alias "Jimmy Pepper" and also won his first race.

In 1 963 he began racing the Jaguar XKE for British Motor Cars of San Francisco. He was awarded Athlete of the Year by Sierra Nevada Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association for 1 963. In 1964, he ran 31 races with 29 wins, 1 second, and one DNF(did not finish) and won the National Sports Car Class Production in Riverside, defeating all other division and regional champions. He also raced at Sebring in 1 965 and 1 966 and in the '70s and '80s he raced in the CAN-AM series. The Northern California Motor Sports Writers and Broadcasters honored him as the "Best Production Driver" for compiling more championship points regardless of class.

He retired from racing in 1 983, but he still holds many records to date on several local hill climbs. Paid notices DEATH NOTICES VALUE ALLEN OHNSTAD Vallie Allen Ohnstad, 79, died December 28, 1995 at her residence. She was born in Fairview, Montana on June 10, 1916, and had lived in Reno the past 42 years, coming from Elko. Val was married at the age of 16 to Don Ohnstad, and they shared 54 years together until his death in 1986. They lived in Elko from 1948 to 1953 while Don managed the Ranch Inn Trap and Skeet Club, and moved to Reno in 1953 when he became manager of the Harold's Trapshooting Club.

Val was an avid golfer member of Hidden Valley Country Club. She loved the sport, and continued to golf actively even win an occasional award well into her mid-70's. Surviving are sons daughters-in-law Donald Debbie Ohnstad of Reno: Allen Penney Ohnstad of Sparks: and grandsons Michael David Ohnstad of Sparks. At Val's request, no funeral is scheduled. A native of Oakland, Calif, he was born June 28, 1 924, to Paul and Agnes Mary Girsch, and had lived in Carson City for the past 3 1 vears, coming from Castro Valley, Calif. Girsch was a product manager for Sacoma Sierra Packing Company for 1 9 years and worked for the U.S. Geological Survey for nine years. He was vice president for Ormsby Retarded Association and active in Babe Ruth and Little League. He was a Korean War Army Air Corps veteran.
