"It's going to be a major change to the place it's going to draw some attention." Workers already have constructed scaffolding around the home's northern side, gutted the interior and are at work removing old siding and framing the interior. Demolition of the roof is expected to begin next week, said Bob Bianco, the project's general contractor. Bianco said the initial construction is expected to take about eight weeks. Finishing work and other details should be completed in December. The project's first phase a guesthouse and garage already is complete.

A third phase that includes the addition of two more bedrooms and a pool is planned for spring 2004. Built in 1976, the 2,700 square foot home was once owned by Reno attorney Wayne N. Capurro. Capurro and his wife, Sheilah, lived in the home after their marriage in 1 983. Wayne N.

Capurro died in 1999. Sheilah Capurro sold the home to Masterson in 2000. Bianco said the home's unique location makes construction work challenging but rewarding. "It's going to change the look of the property so much," said Bianco, owner of Hilltop Buildings, Inc. "That's what I like about remodels you can make so much of a change with something that already exists." Pyramid Way road construction Work on traffic light improvements and rehabilitation of southbound lanes on Pyramid Way between McCarran Boulevard and Street will begin Sept.

3. the request on Sept. 4. North Spanish Springs water fill station The City of Sparks is asking Washoe County to approve a special use permit to build a second water truck fill station in Spanish Springs. Part of a $9 million water, effluent and sanitary interceptor line project, construction on the single line fill station planned for the west side of Calle de Plata about mile from the Pyramid Highway is expected to begin in November.

John Gonzales, Sparks environmental engineering services manager, said the fill station would serve local developers, such as Hawco Properties, which would pay the city for treated effluent water. The city already operates a two-line fill station on La Posada Drive. "It's a good revenue source for the city," Gonzales said. "It helps to pay for the bonds we passed to pay for this pipeline." Already approved by the Spanish Springs Citizen Advisory Board, the request goes before the Washoe County Planning Commission in September. work needed for traffic light improvements, he said.

Work should be finished by Oct. 10. Spanish Springs mini-storage Developers are seeking a variance to reduce the rear-yard building set back from 15 to zero feet on a mini-storage facility planned for the corner of the Pyramid Highway and the yet-to-be-built Ingenuity Avenue in north Spanish Springs. The project, designed to cover some 1 0 acres on the west side of the highway just north of Leviton, already has received approval to reduce required landscaping from 20 percent of the project's total size to just 12 percent. Roger Pelham, Wasnoe County spokesman, said staff is recommending denial of the developer's request based on principles in the Spanish Springs Specific Plan and the Spanish Springs Business Center design guidelines.

The Washoe County Board of Adjustment will hear Larry Boge, Nevada Department of Transportation resident engineer, said installation of video detection systems at intersections designed to reduce wait times will occur at night. But starting Sept. 22, crews will turn their attention to removing existing pavement on the street's southbound lanes, rehabilitating the roadway and laying new pavement. Boge said those road improvements will require the closure of both southbound lanes for one week. Southbound traffic will be rerouted down McCarran Boulevard, he said.

"For only one week, it will affect most people," Boge said of the $800,000 project supervised by Granite Construction. "The rest is nighttime work and won't affect most people that much." The project will include a final week of a single-lane closure at night to finish utility And) lanMReno Gazette-Journal PLENTY TO 00: Janet Snyder, left, Tessa Roberts and Cortney Batts sort through posters last week as they help get Excel Christian School ready for its opening.
