BASEBALL MONDAY, AUGUST 6, 2007 7D RENO Long Beach Armada tops Silver Sox in combined five-homer affair 'Wow, you have a game like that, you don't see that very often. We needed all of the home runs tonight. With this wind and all, if you get balls in the air, there is a good chance it's going Long Beach manager Darrell Evans On the five home runs the Armada and Silver Sox belted in Sunday's game. The Armada won, 11-9. BY SCOTT OXARART soxarartrgj.com It's no secret that Peccole Park is probably the most homer-friendly park in the Golden Baseball League.

The 4,500 feet of altitude and thin air that accompanied a 20-mph wind to left field Sunday night cooked up the perfect recipe for an offensive outburst as the Reno Silver Sox hosted the Long Beach Armada. Five home runs were launched in the game and despite scoring nine runs, the Silver Sox were unable to get a win as Long Beach took down Reno, 11-9. The Silver Sox (6-11 in second half) have lost seven of their last eight. Long Beach (15-3) has been on a tear, winning 12 of its last 13, and continued its dominance of the Silver Sox. Reno has yet to beat Long Beach this season in nine tries.

Armada second baseman and No. 9 hitter Jorge Arazia took advantage of the conditions, hitting three home runs to double his season total to six. He has hit four in the series, which concludes tonight. Arazia's most crippling home run, a two-run shot in the eighth inning, gave the Armada an 1 1-8 lead. After the game, Arazia didn't talk about his home runs, but jokingly questioned manager Darrell Evans' decision to make him bunt in his fourth at-bat.

"I'm so confused," he said, "D-Evans making me bunt on my fourth at-bat? I was hitting the ball well. 1 was taking it easy make good pitches. If we don't make good pitches, we need to make sure nobody is on base and hopefully just give up solos." The Silver Sox were up 7-5 in the fifth inning but gave up six runs in the next three innings and only scored two after the five-run fifth. The Silver Sox started the ninth well, with Done leading off with a walk. But Sam Walker grounded into a double play and Maurice Cole ended the game with a fly out to left.

Offense has been a key theme to this series as the two teams have combined for 69 runs in two games, with Long Beach averaging 13 per game and Reno averaging 10. The three-game series concludes today at 7 p.m. in the air, there is a good chance it's going out." The Silver Sox also took advantage of the conditions as Mike Done hit his sixth home run of the year and newcomer Adam Amar hit his first. Done capped a five-run fifth inning for Reno with a two-run blast over the right-field wall. Done, who is not necessarily known for his power, almost hit two homers on the night when he blasted a high fly to the warning track earlier in the game.

Amar hit possibly the longest home run of the game and added a two-RBI double in the fifth inning. "If you've been to this ballpark at all, you know the wind always blows out," Done said. "Pop flies were flying out and we didn't today and not trying to do too much." Arazia, who had 26 RBls this season, didn't appear to be over-swinging. His eighth-inning home run came on a pitch that was down and away, and Arazia looked to have reached for it. But he got enough of the ball to send it over the left-center field fence.

"Wow, you have a game like that, you don't see that very often," Evans said. "We needed all of the home runs tonight.
