Judge Miller questioned each applicant closely and took occasion to remark that if It is true that li censes are detrimental to the industries and enterprises in South Sharon and such appears file to the satisfaction of the court, no license will be granted in South Sharon And if licenses are granted, a man going to work or while Working must not be supplied with in toxicants under any circumstances. The court said that he was unable to see how he could grant thirteen wholesale li censes in South Sharon and that those who did not succeed in getting license should not he offended as there would be no favoritism used whatsoever. The report of the untimely and unexpected demise of ex-Sheriff W. A. Riddle, Monday, was sad news indeed to his many friends and acquaintances in Mercer.

He had been in town, Saturday, at tending the Republican county committee meeting, appearing to be in unusually good health and spirits. Sunday and Monday up to the time he died there Was no indication that dissolution was impending. His death occurred, Monday a. m. about 9 o'clock.

He had just returned from Milburn station, and having unhitched his horse was on bis way to the house from the barn, when, without the slightest warning, he fell over, dyine almost instantly. The sheriff was nged about 50 years and is survived by a widow and three children: Pearl, intermarried with Harry McKibben, of New Castle Mor timer and Frances. In 1896 he was elected sheriff of Mercer county, and made a most obliging and. competent officer and has hosts of friends who'will mourn his sudden de pariure. The luneral will be held in the M.
