5 BURT Monitor LONE ROCK July 17, 1975 Algeria (la.) Upper DM Moines 9 Co-Op Refunds $180,945 To Patrons BURT Approximately 300 stockholders and patrons of the Burt Coop Elevator attended the annual meeting held on Friday. They heard Auditor Bill Kaelseo, Des Moines tell that the coop had netted a gross savings of $322,468.21 during the past year. This was an increase of $8,368.48 over the year ending May 31, 1974. This was before income taxes of $7,935.69. Patronage refund amounted to $180,945.69.

In business transacted, members voted to change the close of the operating year to the last day of February instead of May 31 as in the past. Robert Angus was elected a new director and Duane Habeger was re-elected director for three years. Norman Still, Des Moines, of the Farm Grain Dealers Association was the guest speaker of the evening. He spoke on and showed slides of the farming and history of Farmers Grain Dealers Association. The Burt High School Swing Choir under the direction of Kitty Bierstedt, who will teach vocal music in the Burt School this fall, entertained those present with three selections.

They were accompanied by Rachel Kruse on the piano. Mrs. Ray Walker won the drawing for the $25 bond given away before the meeting. Other prizes were also given away and those whose names were drawn for prizes included: George Koestler, Mrs. John Smidt, Collette Kockler, Bill Trenary, Franklin Becker, Mildred Richter, Mrs.

Ed Smith Harvey Larson. Screal De Geeter, Mrs. Genevieve Graham, Raymond Lovstad, Sylvester Arndorfer, Janice Trunkhill, Mrs. Russell Patterson, Mrs. Robert Hamilton, Billy Christensen and Laura Woltz.

Bill Drayton, Paul Weber, John Haupert, John Christensen, Ray McWhorter, Mrs. Elsie Junkermeier, Bill Marshall, Vicki Madsen, Virginia Becker. The evening was climaxed with delicious refreshments served by the ladies of the American Legion Auxiliary. Great Grandma For Second Time In Two Weeks Kate Groen became a great-grandmother for the second time in two weeks July 11 when a baby girl arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs.

Gregg Johnson in Nora Springs. The baby, who weighed 6 4 has been named Joleen Renae and has two sisters to welcome her, Michelle and Andrea. The infant's mother is the former Cynthia Groen of Algona. Mr. and Mrs.

She weighed 5 and has a brother, Cole, 2Vi years to welcome her. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Pershing Marlow and Mr. and Mrs.

Lawrence Chipman, all of Burt. Mrs. Edith Chipman and Mrs. Clara Van Steenburg are the great-grandmothers. Lisa Miller of Chino, Calif, and JoAnne Rash, Algona, visited the past week at the home of their grandmother, Mrs.

Jessie Rash. Miss Miller is making an extended visit with her father and family, the David Millers, Algona. Mrs. Margaret Vaudt, Livermore, was a Tuesday dinner guest of Mrs. Ruby Hinckley.

In the afternoon she and Mrs. Wayne Jones visited August and Dorothy Bernau. Aid Outing To Mason City For Tours Visit members of St. John's Lutheran ladies aid enjoyed a day's outing July 8. Leaving Burt early in the day, the group went to Mason City where they toured the Mode-O-Day manufacturing plant and KGLO radio and TV station before having their noon dinner at the Holiday Inn restaurant.

Following dinner they toured the Kinney Pioneer Museum and then went to the Handicap Village at Clear Lake where they were joined by Rev. and Mrs. David Tews and boys. There they were given a guided tour of the facilities and the home for the handicapped before going to the Pioneer Cottage of the Village, where Phyllis Gifford of Burt is a resident. They honored her with a pre-birthday party, her birthday being on July 10.

Phyllis Gifford accompanied her sister-in-law, Mrs. Billy Gifford, back to Burt for a short visit with her brothers and sisters. MINNESOTA VISITOR Susan Alborn came by bus from Silver Bay, Minn, for a two-weeks' visit with her grandmother, Mrs. Hilda Gifford, and aunts. She was joined the past week by her parents and sister, Mr.

and Mrs. Frank Alborn and Diane, who arrived for a week's visit with her mother, sisters and brother. Mrs. Alborn is the former Sally Gifford. Mr.

and Mrs. Stanley Black entertained at dinner Thursday evening. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Alborn, Susan and Diane of Silver Bay, and Mrs.

Hilda Gifford, Martha and Joan. 3-Week Trip To Germany LONE ROCK Mr. and Mrs. Ornie Behrends have returned to their Lone Rock home following a 3-week trip to Germany and a visit with Sp. 6 and Mrs.

Michael Mulroney stationed at Zweibruken, Germany. Both couples also toured beautiful Bavaria and Austria. Places of interest toured were 3 castles, Castle of Linderholf, Herrenchiemsee and Neuschwanstein all built by King Ludwig II; the city of Oberammergau, famous for the Passion Play held every 10 years and a visit with a famous wood carver who had acted 7 years in the Passion Play. France and Luxembourg were also toured. Mozart's Museum in Salzburg, Austria and home in Munich; Eagle's Nest, Hitler's famous hiding place located Burt School Board Allows $168 Increase Per Teacher BURT The Annual Financial Settlement meeting of the Burt School Board was held July 8 with all members except Michael Scott present.

Superintendent Baddeley and Treasurer Stenzel were also in attendance. The board met in regular session July 10, 1975 at 8:00 p.m. with all members in attendance except Michael Scott. Superintendent Baddeley and Treasurer Stenzel with -Jerry Nydegger and Sybil Dangelser were also present. The latter two represented the Burt Teachers' Association.

Dodge and Judy Kay Loew of Hayfield, Minn. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Garcia of Hammond, Mr. and Mrs.

John Mueller of Ames and Mr. and Mrs. Perry Eimers, Jennifer and Nathan of Mankato, Minn, were July 4th weekend guests at the parental Ralph Hammerstrom home, Lone Rock. Mr. and Mrs.

Roy Garcia (Jean Hammerstrom) attended her Sentral class reunion held Saturday evening, July 5th at the Gary Laabs home, Lone Rock. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hammerstrom and Mrs. Wanneta Rost were Sunday visitors at the Luverne Hammerstrom home at Pocahontas.

PHONE 924-3413 BURT, IOWA In board action staff members were allowed a wage increase of $168 each due to an increase in the amount of state aid allowed for the 1975-76 school year. Bills were approved in the amount of $6,494.47. The board moved to permit the secretary to pay for the new bus. The delivery price is $13,765, and will be reimbursed by the rState Department since the purchase is being made to transport nonpublic students to the private school: of St.

of Bancroft. A motion was made anc; carried to require this bus to be 'serviced at service stations in Burt. School Board Nomination papers can be picked up from the board secretary on or before July 31, deadline. The per pupil cost amounted to $1,219.66 for the School Year, and amounted to $63.08 more per pupil than the previous year. Leonard Stenzel was appointed Board Treasurer and Maxine Bristow Board Secretary.

Each was administered the oath of office by President Herrick. Superintendent Baddeley was asked to contact the DeVac Window Corp. and inquire as to when we can expect installation of the windows being purchased for the oldest parts of the building. The board adopted proposed long range plans and made them a part of these minutes. Each membelr was given a schedule of minimum education requirements and asked to study the program for changes, additions, or approval.
