i 78- Tlie Pittsburgh Press, April 5, 1972 'Eddie's Father9 To Go rwe Six Axed For Fall Julie Andrews Heads ABC List, With Gorgeous Joanna Pettet would have been super-appealing as a football coach for her dorm at an all-boys school if somebody had tied her arms down. All female stars have grentions that's TV talk for cute little mannerisms to use when they're in a tight spot, but swinging one's arms through 90 per cent of a show ceases to be appealing before the first commercial break. "West Side Story" Second Best NBC's two-part airing of "West Side Story" for the first time on TV got a national Nielsen rating so high it put Part One on the charts as the second highest rated program among all shows for the two week period ending March 19. Evidently, though, many viewers found as did this writer that the show had not aged gracefully since its original movie house run in 1961, and they didn't bother tuning in for Part II. The second half came in filth for the two-week period.

However, the total package obviously was a success as ratings go, so it is no surprise that NBC already has announced another run next season. Speaking of old movies, "The Wizard of Oz" in its umpteenth rerun during that same rating period came in 17th. The top spot captured again by "All in the Family. Another noteworthy bit of information released on the rating period includes a 39 count for James Whitmore's one-man show, "Will Rogers, USA." That 39 isn't bad, considering that New York a key market ignored it for "The Flip Wilson Show." News Notes "Heart Attack," a two-hour David Susskind show featuring noted heart specialists and men who have recovered from heart attacks, will air on Channel 13 Friday at 8 p. m.

and will be repeated Saturday at 9:30 p. m. Channel 4 will show a half-hour American Cancer Society special, "Take Time Out for Life," Saturday at 7:30 p. m. It was produced by the Allegheny Unit of the American Cancer Society in cooperation with WTAE-TV.

trouble, but it probably has lasted long enough (it goes into its fifth year in September) to be on its way out anyway. ABC's full weekly schedule, with Sunday and Friday unchanged, looks like this: Sunday "The FBI" from 8 to 9 p. and "The ABC Sunday Night Movie" from 9 to 11. Monday "The Rookies" from 8 to 9 p. and "NFL Football" from 9 to 11.

Tuesday "Temperature's Rising" from 8 to 8:30, "Tuesday Movie of the Week" from 8:30 to 10 and "Marcus Welby, MD" from 10 to 11. Wednesday "The Paul Lynde Show" from 8 to 8:30, "Wednesday Movie of the Week" from 8:30 to 10, and "The Julie Andrews Show" from 10 to 11. Thursday "Mod Squad" from 8 to 9, "The Men" from 9 to 10, and "Owen Marshall, Counselor At Law" from 10 to 11. Friday "The Brady Bunch" from 8 to 8:30, "The Partridge Family" from 8:30 to 9, "Room 222" from 9 to 9:30, "The Odd Couple" from 9:30 to 10, and "Love, American Style" from 10 to 11. Saturday "Alias Smith and Jones" (with "Kung Fu" every fourth week) from 8 to 9, "Streets of San Francisco" from 9 to 10, and "Sixth Sense" from 10 to 11.

Copsule Critiques CBS had three good females as leads in last week's "Friday Night Movie" trilogy of 30-minute comedies. Season Hubley was so appealing as Bobby Jo, distaff vocalist for the Big Apple Big Time Band, that she quite possibly could pull off a David hit if CBS needs a mid-season replacement next January. Jodi Foster as "My Sister, Hank" was delightful as a tomboy outlawed from the all-male Little League team. Although the show itself might be difficult to sustain on a regular basis, Jodi was thoroughly refreshing after all the unreal, ultra-sweet children TV offers these days. By BARBARA HOLSOPPLE, Press TV-Radio Editor Julie Andrews' musical variety format heads the list of fight new shows scheduled for the ABC fall premiere week, Sept.

11. Six of the network's current programs have been canceled. Slated to be dropped are "Tlie Courtship of Eddie's Father," "The Persuaders," "Longsireet," "Bewitched," and, regrettablv, "The Monday Night Special" and the Wednesday "Comedy Hour." ABC's extremely successful "NR. Monday Night Football" will fill a couple of hours each week until January, at which time the network expects to begin a movie series. The "Comedy Hour" is dead after this week, but will be seen on Channel 4 here next week because of WTAE's one-week delay on the show.

ABC temporarily is substituting a return of "The Smith Family" and a 30-minute "Marty Feldman Show" until its new schedule takes effect in September. A couple of the newcomers look strong. In addition to "The Julie Andrews Show," ABC will offer a comedy "doctor" show, "Temperature's starring James Whitmore as chief surgeon of a big city hospital. With the Americans apparent love of medical shows, this one could make a go of it. Also new is a crime anthology called "The Men" and alternating "The Delphi Bureau" with Laurence Luckinbill and Celeste Holm, "Jigsaw" with James Wainwright, and "Assignment: Vienna" with Roy Scheider.

Another crime yarn, "The Streets of San Francisco." has Karl Maiden and Michael Douglas (Kirk's son) as 'Frisco detectives. "The Rookies" will deal with young cops and stars four unknowns: Michael Ontkean. Jeff Pomerantz, George Stanford Brown and Sam Melville. (Darren McGavin, who did the pilot film on this one, will not be part of the series i. Strangest newcomer to the schedule is "The Paul I.ynde Show," which will deal with an attorney in "conflict" with his genius son-in-law (John Calvin).

Not only does the premise seem a bit weak, but it is eo Tomorrows TV JULIE ANDREWS PAUL LYNDE She's a variety show hostess, he's a lawyer. doubtful that Lynde's form of comedy can sustain him in a weekly situation comedy. The ABC programming department also pulls another strange one with the scheduling of "Alias Smith and Jones" for three Saturday nights, with newcomer "Kung Fu" filling the hour on the fourth Saturday. "Kung Fu" about a Chinese war lord's adventures in the American West, stafs David Carradine in the role he did for the pilot film this winter. "Mod Squad" fans will be interested to know that the popular Tuesday show has been moved opposite NBC's "Flip Wilson Show" on Thursday nights.
