Dryden, whom the Canadiens claim is the most valuable player in the National Hockey League, returned to his goalie position last night after playing only one game since Dec. 22 and shut out the Toronto Maple Leafs, 1-0. It was Dn den's fourth shutout of the season and extended the Canadiens' home unbeaten string lo 21 games this season. The Canadiens are the only tram in the NHL which has not Inst a home game this season. Pete Mahovlich scored the game's only goal at 19:58 of the third period after taking a faceoff pass from Henri Richard.

It was his 15th of the campaign. "I'm in better condition than I expected," said Dryden after the game. "I guess there were about four or five shots I found tough. You never think about shutouts before a game. "I was really concerned, though, about the fact that I had only one practice in three weeks and I was worried about what kind of shape I'd be in during an actual game." Maybe Carnegie-Mellon Coach Jim Brown doesn't deserve a coach-of-the-year award, but any man who can put up with a 32-day layoff in the schedule, 52 days without a home game, a 5-8 center and his second-best player dropping out of school deserves some sort of award.
