when the Lincoln Lynx and the Las Vegas Wildcats won their consolation semi Las Vegas High Wild cats stunned in their opener by the Humboldt Buckaroos today snapped back at the expense of Yerington and handed the Lions a 70 46 whipping to gain the consolation finale orty personal fouls were called during the rough late aft ernoon contest 27 of them against the Las Vegas club As a result the losing Lions picked up 28 of their total from the foul line in 43 attempts The Wild cats got 15 from the free throw stripe in only 21 tries Coach Harry red and black combo left little doubt to the skating tonight ft tp a 3 7 IOWA CITY Iowa March 16 (UR) Big Ten champions shook off a fist fight and an in jury tonight to beat Morehead State 97 83 and Kentucky downed Wayne 84 64 to advance to the quarter finals of the NCAA basketball tournament The Hawkeyes winning their 15th straight game sailed to a lead as high as 24 points in the first half but a surge of fouling cost them guard Bill Seaberg in the first seven minutes of the second period and guard Milt Scheuerman was put out for fight ing before the 10 minute mark Meanwhile the Morehead team highest scoring club in the nation shaved the Iowa edge to 13 points Carl Cain the leading scorer with 28 points kept the Hawkeyes alive then until 5:12 remained when he hurt his leg on a drive in shot and was taken out limping badly Kentucky eight point fav orte held a tremendous height advantage and controlled the backboard all the way But Wayne boasting a 17 game win ning streak and only one defeat in 19 starts battled in front Singles ROCHESTER March 16 (UR) Tony Sparando of New York 50 year old former Amer ican Bowling Congress singles champion took over first place today in the singles division of the 1956 tournament with a total of 719 Sparando who is partly blind in his right eye rolled games of 234 246 and 239 The veteran bowling alley proprietor from Rego Park won the ABC singles title in 1954 at Seattle with 723 His singles feat placed him third in the all events competition with an 1863 total Sparando rolled 573 in the team event yesterday and 571 in doubles earlier this afternoon He replaced George Young of
