Wednesday. August 11, 1982 6E Reno Evening Gazette Old slots may be destroyed noaS Fonda hospitalized for heart ills LOS ANGELES (AP) Actor Henry Fonda has been hospitalized again in serious and worsened condition because of a "chronic and longstanding heart condition," a hospital spokeswoman said Tuesday. The 77-year-old star, who won the best actor Oscar for "On Golden Pond" this year, was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Sunday, spokeswoman Virginia Bohannon said. Fonda had left the hospital only 16 days earlier after a two-week stay for adjustment of heart medication and treatment of urinary tract and root canal infections, Ms. Bohannon said.

"The doctor said that Mr. Fonda's condition continues to be serious," she said. "He came in to have his medication adjusted again, and the doctor said his condition had worsened despite readjustment of the medication." "He's conscious, but he's very weak," John Springer, Fonda's press agent for the last three decades, said in a telephone interview from New York. "He didn't have a heart attack or anything like that, it was just that he was weak and not able to get the kind of care at home that he can get at the hospital." "It sounds very bad," Springer added. "I really wish I had nice, cheerful, happy news but I don't." Fonda's daughter, actress-Jane Fonda, issued a statement I saying her father was taken to the hospital "in a weakened -condition which required closer supervision than he could obtain at home.

He is in no pain and is -resting comfortably. His chil-: dren and family are with him." Springer said Miss Fonda and Fonda's wife, Shirlee, were at' the hospital "from early morning right until as late as they can be." He said he was unsure whether Fonda's son, Peter Fonda, was in Los-Angeles. Fonda, who has starred on stage and screen for half a century, has worn a pacemaker since 1974. WEST LEECHBURG, Pa. (AP) Glenn Mulhollan's love for llamas has lapsed, so he's trying to unload his long-eared pet through some ad lines.

Llouie the llama, though, has an unlikely drawback he's afraid of dogs. Mulhollan bought Llouie three years ago for $160 after reading an advertisement, but he's discovered that Llouie isn't as likeable as he was led to believe. He's had only one call since he place his ad Friday. "Some lady from Franklin wanted to buy the animal. She thought it would be good to run with her sheep and keep dogs away," he said.

RAVENNA, Ohio (AP) Some old-time "bandits" will bite the dust, courtesy of the strong arm of the law, but they may get a reprieve if a judge decides to grant custody to a historical society. The "bandits," in this case, are the one-armed variety used at casinos to part gamblers from their coins. Gambling is illegal in Ohio, so when authorities seized the 15 antique slot machines in a raid on a Teamsters party, Medina County Common Pleas Judge Phillip Baird felt he had no choice but to condemn them to the sledge hammer. The judge and law enforcement officials felt that if the slots, valued at $15,000, were spared and auctioned off, they might once again be used for gambling. Now, the Portage County Historical Society has come up with a way to keep the antiques to the straight and narrow and has asked Baird to spare the machines.

The society says it would put the machines under glass. "I would hate to see them destroyed," said society trustee Jerry Osborne. "Gambling is a part of American history and you can't wish it away just because it may not have been one of our finer hours." A group of Akron collectors has also requested a reprieve for the one-armed bandits. But Baird, whose July 16 order says that the slots may be destroyed anytime after Aug. 15 at a date selected by the sheriff, said he doesn't know if he can help.

The CBS series, which winds up its long run this coming season, finished a full point ahead of ABC's "Too Close for Comfort" in the A.C. Nielsen ratings.

The "M-A-S-H" win, plus five other CBS shows in the Top 10, gave the network another first-place victory. CBS, which was No. 1 for the past season, had a rating of 13.2. ABC was second with 12.7 and NBC was a distant third with 10.4. The networks say this means in an average prime-time minute, 13.2 percent of the nation's homes with TV were tuned to CBS.
