Philip Kauten of Reforestation camp of Minnesota spent Sunday and Monday visiting in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kauten. Dorothy Reather, Marjorie Rademaker and Sarah Stalnaker spent Sunday afternoon visiting friends in Maynard. Philip and Irene Stohr motored to Aurora Sunday afternoon.

1 c. butter 2 c. sugar 3 beaten cgga 1 tbsp. vanilla Mi c. milk c.

cake flour 2 tsp. baking powder tsp. salt Cream the butter and sugar together. Add the beaten eggs and vanilla and beat smooth. Add the milk, then the.flour sifted with the baking-powder an'd-salt.

Mix until smooth and drop by teaspoonf)ils on a greased baking: sheet. in a hot oven (460 degrees) for about 8 minutes. This makes about 8 dozen wafers. Health Salad On each salad plate arrange a bed of shredded lettuce. In the center place mound of finely diced beet pickles.

Around this arrange cle of finely-shredded cabbage or carrots, then another circle of beets. Top plain whipped cream. Green Beana with Cheew 2 pounds of green beans and cut.or break into inch pieces. Wash, then add 1 cupful of cold water, 1 teaspoonful of salt, and cook about 20 minutes, or until tender. Drain off any water which is left.

Arrange a layer of, beans in a buttered baking dish and sprinkle generously with grated or finely chopped American cheese. Alternate the, layers of beans and cheese until all'the beans are used. Dot with bits of butter, sprinkle with pepper and salt, and pour over the mixture cupful of thick sweet cream. Sprinkle 2 teaspoonfuls of grated parmesan cheese bver the top and place in a moderate oven (350 degrees) until the cheese has melted. Iced Chocolate Place 3 tablespoonfuls of chocolate sirup in a large glass.

Add 3 tablespoonfuls of crushed ice, if desired, and continue filling the glass with milk. Stir well and sreve. Chocolate Ginger Ale Place 2 tablespoonfuls of chocolate sirup in a large glass. Add 1 tablespoonful of thick cream and some crushed ice. Continue tilling the glass with ginger ale, stir well, and serve.

Apricot Nut Bread c. dried apricots, cut fine 2 tbsp. butter c. sugar 1 egg 1 c. milk 0 c.

flour 6 tbsp baking powder tsp, soda 1 tsp. salt c. nut meats Cover washed and finely cut apricots with water and boil for five minutes. Cool well. Cream butter with the sugar and add beaten egg, Stir in the.soda and salt and add to the batter along with the nuts.

Stftlnaker 'homo Tuesday morn- REMEMBER WAY BACK WHEN Ten Years Ago Thursday, July 19, 1923 The business section of Main street was at last opened for traffic yesterday, the surfacing being completed east to Pleasant street shortly after noon. By noon today a surfaced street from the east to the west of Sumner will be available.

Bremer county's exhibition shown at the State Fair in DCS Moines will feature dairying and dairy products according to the committee who met recently to make plans. Miss Lillian Zell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Zell, east of Sumner and John Schnor of Hawkeye were united in marriage at the Little Brown church at Nashua on Friday, July 6. On Thursday, July 5th occurred the marriage of William Winkleman of Fredericksburg to Miss Ethel Whit- nable of Sumner.

The marriage took place at the Evangelical Lutheran church at Waterloo at 8 p. the Rev. iBauch officiating. They will make their home in Waterloo. here have received announcements of the marriage of Miss Evelyn Young, daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. James Young, former residents of Sumner, and George Crist of Santa Barbara, on July 2nd. The young couple will reside at iSan Fernando, Calif. Miss Edith Mueller, formerly of Sumner and William Krumery of Waterloo were united in marriage at the Little Brown church on Monday, July 16. They will make their home in Waterloo.

The bride is a sister of Mrs. H. H. Niemann. With ideal weather and a regular county fair crowd in the amphitheatre and ground the big two-day celebration opened at Waverly last night when more than 300 Waverly people, under the direction of Thurston Dramatic company of Minneapolis, enacted the history of Bremer county in pageant and tableaux.

Sumner is now tied with Fredericksburg for first place in the Bremer- Chickasaw league. Two hits off 'Rollins, several walks and a flock of by his team mates Sunday resulted in four tallies for the Sumner- ites and the largest crowd of the season saw the local lads emerge victorious from the contest. Herman and Gus Wuttke returned on Sunday from an auto trip to Charlotteville, where they had visited their sister, Mrs. C. W.

Fricke, touring other points in the East, returning by way of the Great Herbert Carpenter of Philadelphia, was a Sumner visitor Friday at the E. A. Wismer home and with other relatives and Sumner friends. Mr. Carpenter has been spending his vacation with his brother, W.

M. at Minneapolis, and was returning to Philadelphia. Henry Schwerin who is employed as assistant-cashier in the State Bank at 'Flanagan, 111., came last Wednesday for a two weeks vacation which he is spending at the home of his parents and with other relatives and friends. Twenty-five Years Ago Thursday, July 23, 1908 Miss Mata Linn returned to Independence yesterday afternoon after a visit here with her cousin, Madge Linn. iShe will visit for a short time in Independence before returning to Colorado.

Mrs. Halla Harding was honored with a 5 o'clock tea Wednesday afternoon, about 12 ladies being present for the occasion. Mrs. Johnson and three children of Decovah are here for a month's visit at the home of Mrs. Johnson's brother, Henry Aders and family.

Mrs. Charles Pennington and Mrs. R. S. Pease were in Waverly 'Friday attending to some lodge work.

Sam Monger spent several days last week At Vinton where he visited his uncle, 0, Fox, Mrs, Henry Dickman returned the first of the week from the World's Fair in Chicago, where she expected to meet her sister, Mvs, Lin ingef, but through some misunder standing their were not rightly RANDAL1AN ESCAPES FROM BULL'S ONSET Jesse Zbornik Broken Ribs and Bruises Last Thursday Zbornik is recovering from several broken ribs and a severe bruising of his body, suffered July 6 when his herd sire knocked him down and bunted him around on the ground, The animal finally tiring of his play, walked away.

What saved Mr. Zborhik more severe injury was due to the animal having no horns. This is Mr. Bbortiik's second experience of the sort in the past several years. Garden Club Meets Randalls Home -and Garden club met July 11 at the home of Mrs.

Vacation School Closes 'The Daily Vacation Bible school closed Friday after a very successful and profitable term, and with a total enrollment of 40.

The Fayette lads annexed the district title when they defeated Mason City 4-3. This is the second successive year they have been district champs, says the West Union Argo-Gazette.
