The electrolytic process and chemically treated black plate will, in certain applications, be used as a. substitute for hot dip tin plate, Mr. Fairless said. "The new lines for the production of the electrolytic tin plate will have a total annual capacity of approximately tons, which tonnage under normal conditions would require the use of 3375 tons of pij; tin by the conventional hot dip method, compared with 1125 tons under the new the U. S.

Steel chief commented. Electrolytic tin plate is produced by coating black plate with tin by means of an electric current passed through a solution. Under the conventional hot dip method, black plate is dipped into molten tin. Due to the national emergency and to improvements in the process, the electrolytic methods field of application in the packing of food products has been greatly enlarged, Mr. Fairless said.
