Kollman and daughter, Margaret, and Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Kollman spent Sunday evening in Hawkeyc with relatives. The members of the choir of the Lutheran church helped H. Suhr celebrate his birthday last Friday evening.

Rev. and Mrs. G. W. Turner of Sumner were guests of the Helping'Hand society at the Leo Coleman home last Wednesday afternoon.

Mrs, Dale Russell was hostess, The Legion Auxiliary held a Christmas party at the D. C. Lewis home Tuesday evening. Gifts were exchanged and a delicious lunch was served. Mr.

The Helping Hand society will hold their Christmas party December 28 in the home of Mrs. Carl Caswell; Gifts will be exchanged and each member is to bring a friend. Donald Kollman, Rollis Coleman and William Cross were business callers in Osage and Riceville Friday afternoon and Saturday. A number from Westgate attended the Parent Teachers meeting in Maynard Thursday evening. Frank Lang from Sumner was a business caller here Friday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Kollman attended a Christmas party Saturday evening at the home of Supt. and Mrs. Hileman in Maynard.

Maxino Bowling, Marjorie Rademaker and Margaret Stalnaker attended the basketball games in Sumner Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wilson.of Maynard have moved onto the farm vacated by the S. E.

The pupils receiving in spelling for the past week were: Jean Buntrock, June Fridley and Margaret Plaster. The following pupils received an average of or above in spelling last week: Charles Underwood, Ardis Pagel, Violet Sidler and Robert Webb. Last Friday afternoon we had a spelling bee. Jean Rademaker and Robert Webb tied for first place. June Fridley, Margaret Plaster, Violet Sidler and Ardis Pagel tied for second.

Allan Caswell and Charles Underwood tied for third and Dean Caswell placed fourth. Dean Caswell and Robert Webb received an average of 10 in an arithmetic drill last week. Southwest of Westgate Mr. and Mrs. Lee Williams and Miss Anna and Emma Gruetzmacher were Waterloo twsiness callers Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Glew, Olive and Mrs. Leib were Oelwein shoppers Saturday. Mr.

and Mrs. Anton Smorawske were Oelwein callers Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Meyer entertained a number of relatives and friends at a Sunday dinner.

Those present were Mr. and Mrs. August Meyer, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meyer and family, Henry Meyer, Mr.

and Mrs. Max Lenzhow and family. Mr. and Mrs. Berl Downing were Sunday dinner guests at the Albert Downing home.

Miller of Hawkeye was released on a bail bond, filed last Thursday, from the county jail where he has been confined since last July, charged with committing the crime of rape and lascivious acts With a child. His mother-in-law, Mrs. Jess Johnson of Sumner filed the complaint. The crime is alleged to have been committed on her thirteen year old daughter who is a sister of Mrs. Miller.

His bond previously had been fixed at $16,000 but was reduced to $1,000 last week by Judge Carl W. Reed. Mary Engelke of Hawkeye was granted a decree divorcing her from Paul Engelke in the district court by Judge Carl W. Reed last Monday. She received as permanent alimony from Mr.

Engelke the house and lot in Hawkeye, all household articles and $2,000. She was also given the use of the fiat she now occupies over Mr. Engelke's place of business until the first day of May, 1933, and is to be furnished light and heat until that time. She is also given the custody of the two minor children. However, he is given the right to visit them at reasonable intervals.

He was further ordered to pay Mrs. Engelke the sum of $25 per month for the support of the children until they attain their majority. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Renter and family were Saturday evening visitors in Henry Uhgerer home neflf Hawkeye. The latter is suffering from a broken leg. Mrs.
