Second Section -PAGE THREE Attractions at Bluefield Theatres and Gossip of the Studios and Hollywood Movie Celebrities PICTURE FILMED AT MARINE BASE Columbia's Comedy Drama, "Pride Of The Marines', Opening At Granada Taken At San Diego Base Against the colorful background of the United States marine base. at San Diego, Columbia's comedy-drama, "Pride of The Marines," which opens Friday at the Granada theatre, was filmed.

Its case includes Charles Bickford, Florence Rice, Billy; Burrud, Robert Allen and Ward Bond, All the facities of the great milltary base, including the heavy coast defense guns, the trim fighting planes, the anti-aircraft guns, the great battleships and destroyers 2,600 of America's finest fighting men, the 6th regiment of United States Marines, appear in "Pride Of The Marines." It is the story of an orphan lad who is adopted by a Marine with a steel exterior but a soft heart, Billy Burrud plays the part of the orphan lad, and Bickford that of the leatherneck who the boy under his wing and brings him to the San Diego war base to live. Bickford has recently been seen in "The Farmer Takes' A Wife," "The Littlest Rebel" and "Rise of The Rancho." Florence Rice's last picture was "Escape From Devil's Island." Previously she in That Girl," 'Awakening of Tim Burke," "Carnival" others. This is ten-year-old Billy Burrud's second Alm; his first was "'Three Kids And A Queen." Columbia Pictures recelved the full cooperation of the Marino Corps in making. "Pride Of The Marines." The 6th Regiment actually became extras during the filming of the picture, going through their dress parade drills and battle maneuvers while cameras recorded the inspir-. ing scenes.

Other iniportant players. in the film include Robert Allen, Joseph Sawyer, Ward Bond, George McKay and Thurston Hall. D. Ross Lederman- directed. Harold Shumate wrote the screen play.
