R. GAY RENOMINATED PRESIDENT OF ELECTIONS New York, R. Gay has been renominated by the nominating committee of the New York stock exchange to succeed himself as president at the elections lo be held in May. it was anjipunced today. The renominatlon is considered equivalent to re-election since no opposition slate la expected to be placed in the field by special petition.

German farmers try to stave off frosts'with artificial fogs. They use of unslaked lime into which drips dissolved sulphur trioxide. The reaction produces a protecting cloud of vapor. The lengths to which these Mints and Spears go to carry out the program and distribute their new dollar bills In-amazing. To them, climbing a 200-foot smokestack to contact a painter at the top, or going down In a coal mine, climbing skyscrapers under construction, or flagging cars in the middle of the slicct, mean nothing.

They have appeared in jails to contact prisoners, they have lifted towels off men's faces In barber shopH, approached locomotive engineers who did not have gum and then raced with the train to the next town to try tiicni again. They have worked schools and caused riots. On several occasions police have rescued them from over- zealoua mobs. In fact, It is their boast that the average man does not travel so fast nor so far that, they cannot catch him and contact him. Apparently, the more difficult it Is to get to a person, the harder they work to contact him.

In most cases they have mohe following them down the streets, through stores and any other place they may choose to go. It Is surprising that the anticipation of getting a dollar bill for an opinion of Wrigley '6 gum has such a pronounced effect on the public. In Din eyes of the representatives, all people look nlike to them, size, color, age, or position mattering not to them. According to the ropresento. five here, Mr.

Spear, who In private "Circus? So What?" Moe, the white camel star of the circus menagerie, sneers his contempt for all the excitement attending the opening of the 1936 version of the "bigger and better than ever" entertainment in New York City. You see, he goes to tha circus every a performer. lire is-. Nell Burnhnin. it is Ihe purpose of the campaign to buy opinions from Wrigley users, regardless of where they may be or who they may be.

Local Interest In this campaign is at fever pitch, merchants selling more gum thai! ever before. In the words of a commentator, familiar the campaign, Bluefield is knee- deep lb Wrigloy's gum. The Wrigley Dollar Hill campaign, now In full swing In Bluefield, presents one of the most unique advertising methods yet devised. Everyone, hundreds of people are stopped by Mr. Spear or Miss Mint, representatives of the Wrigley and asked, "Have you an opened package of AVrlgley's?" Every person 'who carries such a package is paid a new dollar bill for his or her or.in- lon of the gum.

Those who do not have the gum are given a green slip, expressing the regret of the representative at not being able to give them new dollar hills. The personnel of this campaign Is composed almost, entirely of newspapermen and women, nr those who have had newspaper experience. It Is amusing and interesting to watch the reaction of people when approached by a Wrigley representative. Some who have the gum are so excited that they forget everything: others beconio so nervous that they cannot write; some are bashful and have to be prompted to answer, while others, highly keyed with anticipation, nearly faint when suddenly Psychology and human na'nre plav major parts In this unique advertising scheme. Representatives of the Wrigley company say that lots of people comment, on the apparent easiness of the Job but slate that the job is a very difficult one requiring business experience, fast thinking, a keen insight into all phases of human nature, and plenty oil hard work.
