Evening briefing 8 Reno Evening Gazette Thursday, Oct. 20, 1977 Horses not allowed Bridge tournament slated ELKO A pair of men who tried to ride their norses into a bar and a casino were arrested by police Monday -night and charged with maintaining a public nuisance. Arrested by Elko police were Darrell Van 26, and Edward Charles Roger, 32, both of Elko. Police said they had numerous complaints about tjie two men riding on their horses in front of the establish ments. The Reno unit of the American Corftraet Bridge League will hold its Reno fall sectional tournament Friday through Sunday at the Pioneer Inn.

Play begins at 1 p.m. and again at 7:30 p.m. Anyone who wants to play is welcome, said a spokesman. Persons who want to come back but lack a partner should contact Dorothye Woodard at the tournament, he said. Spectators are welcome.

The Landmark, a "space needle-like" resort across the street from the Las Vegas Convention Center, is generally considered to be the weak link in Summa's chain of six gaming and hotel operations in the state. The Landmark, purchased by the late Howard Hughes in 1969 for a reported $17.3 million, has never turned a profit, and rumors of its sale have been making their rounds since shortly after Hughes died in 1976. Summa officials have confirmed that two offers have been received for the hotel, and a third offer was reported in a local newspaper Wednesday. Hospital costs up LAS VEGAS (AP) Room and service rates charged at the Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital will soon be going up because of action taken Wednesday by the Clark County Commission.
