They were selected by a 4-2 vote. The dissenting votes were from Bankofier and Thornton. The council received a written request from George Solarl, Reno Rodeo president, asking for permission to stage the drive June 20.

About 20 Texas longhorns would be shipped to Reno from Blythe, Calif, to provide a "touch of the old west" for the rodeo. Nevada Young Republicans Meet This Week Gazette-Journal Carson City Bureau Nevada Young Republicans will map plans for victory in 1968 at a three-day state convention scheduled this week in the capital. Some 70 persons are expected to elect a new YR presi dent, hear speeches by top party leaders including Gov. Paul Laxalt, and take part in a political worksho. Sam Belford of Reno is the only avowed candidate to suc ceed incumbent YR president Dan Johns of Las Vegas.

The convention will start at 3 :15 p.m. Friday at Heidi's Cap tain Cabin, following an after noon tea at the Governor's mansion for the women and a tour of the state prison for the men. Committees will meet later in the afternoon, followed by a buffet dinner that evening. Gov. Laxalt will deliver the opening address Saturday at 9 A.M., following which the con ferees will go into a political workshop session featuring con troller Wilson McGowan, parole chief Paul Toland, Sen.

Coe Swobe, R-Reno, and health and welfare director Dr. Otto Rav- enholt. Sen. Archie Pozzi, R-Carson City, will address the luncheon meeting, while state chairman George Abbott will deliver the closing address at the Satuday night banquet. The convention will close with a brunch Sunday morning.

Laxalt Vetoes Veterans Exemption Bill Gazette-Journal Legislative Gov. Paul Laxalt has vetoed a bill dealing with veterans exemptions. On the Bill SB-370, the governor objected on grounds it would have deprived veterans of their 51,000 exemption if they were in sanitation or water districts. The governor said, "the matter of exemption from taxation to the extent of $1,000 assessed valuation, now applies universally to all qualified veterans, and the proposed amendment In Section 3 of this bill would preclude certain qualified veterans from the statutory exemption."
