9 (UPD Studebaker Corp. has announced 1962 net income of $2,561,794 on sales of 365 million dollars. Sherwood H. Egbert, president of the auto firm, said last year's profits included of non-recurring income realized on the sale of property. In 1961, the corporation had net income of $2,535,724, including $5,668,867 of non-recurring profit on the sale of its Gering Division.

Operating profit of $189,460 for 1962, compared with an operating loss of $3,133,143 for 1961. Last year's sales of 365 million dollars were an increase of 67 million dollars over 1961. Joaeph Home 2 4 4 HIALEAH, Feb. 9 (UPD Kelso, Mrs. Richard C.

DuPont's record- breaking gelding, galloped to victory in the $52,800 Seminole Handicap at -Hialeah today, merely toying with a star-studded field of rivals. Jockey Ismael Valenzuela coasted the six-year-old Kelso, named Horse of the Year for the last three consecutive years, to a two and three-quarter length victory over the favored Ridan with the Argentine ace Sensitivo finishing third, another two and one-half lengths back. George D. Widener's Jaipur as he appeared to gain the lead in a few jumps at the eighth pole and galloped the remainder of the way to victory. Jaipur tired in the stretch.

Ridan and Sensitivo made all-out efforts to catch Kelso but lost ground in the closing yards. Kelso ran (he nine furlongs In 1:48 and four-fifths. The track record, set bv Bold Ruler in 1957, Is 1:47 flat. Kelso picked up the $37,830 winners stakes for Mrs. DuPont's Bohemia Stables.

was fourth, followed by Flying Johnnie and Hitting Away, bringing-up the rear of the six-horse field. Kelso, running as an unaccustomed second choice of the crowd of 25,873, paid $6.70, $3.60 and $2.80. Ridan, the favorite, returned $2.90 and $2.30 and Sensitivo paid $2.90 for show. As the barrier opened for the mile and one-eighth, Seminole, Ogden Phipps' Hitting Away jumped into the lead. But Jaipur gave close pursuit and by the time the field pounded into the long turn for home, the Widener colt, who bucked and appeared fractious before the race, pushed to the front.

Kelso got away alertly but merely coasted behind the leaders no worse than five lengths off the pace while Valenzuela bided his time. Steve Brooks, on Ridan, gave chase to the early leaders and held third position most of the way. When the track straightened for the run to the wire, Valenzuela shook up Kelso and moved him to the outside.
