Will Harper, who was sent to the Texas penitentiary from Texarkana, made his escape while acting as trusty, and tbe Texas authorities offer a reward for his capture. Harrison's public school opened Monday with an attendance ot 325.

According to tbe enumeration just completed the school population, both white and colored, Is 562. Ben Miller died at Texarkana from gunshot wounds Inflicted by Carl Winfrey, who has been arrested and placed in Jail. Miller's daughter, Winfrey's sweetheart, was alBO arrested as an accessory. Miss Fronie Knowlton, who recently returned from California, where she had been In the hopes ot benefitting her health, was reported very low last night; in fact her demise Is expected at any moment. Mrs. M. J. Robinson, widow of Dr. James Robinson, an aunt of ex-Governor James P.

speaking of the withdrawal of (he gtiards at the coal mines. Marshal Stahl, of Fort Smith, said: "There have been no disturbances of any kind for a long time, and we believe there will be none. The strikers are quiet and are giving the miners no trouble at all." J. Windham, residing near Wheelen, had the misfortune to accidentally shoot himself In the foot last Saturday, the 9th Inst, which resulted in death between 5 and o'clock yesterday afternoon. The wound became serious, and a few hours before his death doctors amputated his toot. Mr. was an honorable gentleman, a justice ot the peace and a former candidate for representative ot this county.

His death is greatly deplored by a wide circle throughout the county. Gurdon Times. An old gray-bearded man was found In the street at Hot Springs last Tuesday morning suffering from chills and fever, and was taken to the city jail, where he died early Friday morning. No papers could be found on the deceased to disclose his Identity, and no one seems to know anything about him. He is described as having been a man about 60 years ot age, light complected with gray whiskers about an Inch long, about 5 feet 8 Inches In height, of medium build and dressed very shabbily.

The remains were Interred by Jailor Clalbourne at the expense of the city. Ben Estes, of Eros, was In Yellvllle Tuesday and Informed us that there Is a wonderful mineral excitement In the southwestern portion of the county, He stated that a great deal of prospecting Is being done, some mineral found, and many fine indications, and he felt sure that with the proper amount of work some rich finds would be made. He informed us that B. L. Stout has made one of the richest strikes that has ever been made in the Pine hollow.

The ore Is pure Jack of the finest grade, and there Is every Indication of a veritable quarry of It This discovery has created consider able excitement in that community. Yellvllle Echo. The excitement which existed In the northern part of this county over the killing of Crate Miller, near Berber, on the first of this month by Henry Phil lips, has about subsided. Phillips had, a preliminary hearing before Justice J. L.

Norrls last week and was held to await the action of the grand Jury. He has since been released on bond in the sum of $1,000. At the time of the killing it was said that the crime was without provocation, but Phillips' defense caused a great change In pub lic opinion. Phillips alleges that Mil ler was trying to break up his home and wean the affections ot bis wife away from him. Whether he had suf ficient grounds for this belief Is not yet known.
