Reno's in oo 10 SUNDOWNER HOTEL CASINO 8S35 GflMES recent growth and development. The new name also mirrors the confidence we have in the greater Reno area and the place it should hold in the gaming industry. In short, we are excited and thrilled with what we believe the future holds for 'The Sands Regent' and the greater Reno-Sparks metropolitan area." With the opening of the new tower in December, 1983, the Hotel-Casino became Northern Nevada's third largest gaming property. The Sands Regent has also obtained approval for construction of a 35-story expansion, which would add 740 rooms and 23,500 additional square feet of gaming. Construction on this expansion, the third phase of a four stage expansion plan for the property, is expected to start in the fall of 1985.

Reno's Sands Hotel-Casino, locally owned and operated by the Cladianos family since 1965, announced plans to modify its name to highlight the opening of the Company's new tower, a 269 room facility. This 17-story structure is the second tower constructed on the Company's premises in Reno, Nevada and contains a new health club, several luxury hotel suites, new executive offices, and an additional 5,500 square feet of gaming space. Currently known as the Sands, Reno, the new name will become "The Sands Regent" Hotel-Casino. Pete Cladianos, President of Zante, the closely held Nevada gaming Corporation which owns and operates The Sands Regent, offered the following: "We feel the new name reflects the quality of our INQUIRE WITHIN orui 450 N. He has the effortless humor that comes after hours of effort," claimed a Las Vegas critic after seeing comic Tony D'Andrea perform.

D'Andrea, recently named Atlantic City's "Comedian of the Year," is currently filling the comedy slot in the new Greg Thompson production, "Hi-Heel Sneakers," in the Casino Cabaret at John Ascuaga's Nugget. D'Andrea first discovered he enjoyed performing during a stint in the Marines when he was looking for an excuse to get out of guard duty. "There was going to be a talent show and anyone who participated would get out of guard duty," he explains. "So I signed up for the show, did some impressions and got out of guard duty." He decided he liked performing and doing impressions so when a friend opened a comedy club in New York he got a job as a bartender and was allowed to get on stage each evening for a few minutes. "It was just what I needed," he said.

"Every night I worked on comedy and my impressions and every night I learned a little bit." One night George Carlin was in the audience. He was so impressed with D'Andrea that the told him he should take his act west. So his friends put on a "Tony D'Andrea Night," sent out lots of invitations and raised $1,800 to send him on his way to stardom. Since that time he's worked in lounges from Los Angeles to Cleveland, Houston to Philadelphia to Chicago. He's opened shows for Suzanne Somers, Debbie Reynolds, Juliet Prowse and Jose Feliciano (to name a few) and he's starred in production shows in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe and Reno.
