Another Project Threatens to Fold BETHEL WOMEN, all residents ofthePrematemalHome, bio wont'birthday'candles to celebrate the Home's second year of operation. The Home, created to fill a direct and definite need in Bethel, services 60 outlying villages as well. Due to financial troubles, it is no in some danger of collapse. As 1969 gains ground, one more Alaskan project, designed to help those in need, stands on shaky lack of adequate financing. This time Bethel, a village long in need of attention, is affected.

The Bethel Prematernal Home, set up two years ago to give food and shelter to pregnant women from outlying villages (who otherwise would be living in abandoned shacks) isindangerof folding. At present, the only funding received is from donationsbythe women themselves, from Council Chiefs, Public Health service, RurAlCap and the city of Bethel. Donations are spasmodic and unstable. The home has proved highly satisfactory and rewarding since its inception, but the cost per day per woman) of staffing and supplying is not being met on a stable basis. Among local organizations, formed to help those who are unable, at present, to help themselves, are Hope Center and Hillcrest Home for Boys.

Both lack a program of steady Joan Maret, one of the June Taylor Dancers on "The Jackie Gleason Show," reveals that she and her husband own four pets. Two of them are snakes. Fairbanks Daily Monday, January 27, of A News Newest Fashions Show Unusual Material Alliance There's a new alliance in fashion these of differing textures. Some of the unusual marriages of material include chiffon and jersey, linen and crepe, wool and silk, wool knits and crepe or silk. In the case of a two-piece costume, it is usually the bodice of the dress that comes in the lighter weight fabric.

When the costume is a dress alone, there is no set pattern. The lightweight, filmy material may make up the skirt-especially for cocktail or evening wear. Very often the two fabrics are joined by a wide embroidered or jeweled belt or ribbons. A highlight of designer Victor Joris' spring collection, previewed in New York, was his new rainwear. Joris includes several rain pantsuits in his designs (for cuddlecoat).

Several of them feature full-length coats in the fit-and-flare silhouette Joris predicts will be the most popular spring look. The coats go over full-legged pants and have hemlines slanted from front to back. One coat' was laced up the back in a criss-cross style with leather. Another of the rain pantsuits had a short, battle-jacket top. For fair weather, Joris showed similar pantsuits in differing fabrics.

Featured in this presentation was a bright red jacket styled from the 1940's look, over matching pants. The jacket had a long rolled collar, fitted waist and single buttons. And for the woman who's wondering what to wear beneath those pantsuits, one lingerie firm (Olga) is offering several alternatives. Among them is an extra-long legged girdle to give the wearer a smooth line from waist to knee. At the other extreme, there are mini-girdles and mini-slips and even an all-in-one outfit that resembles a girl's gym nylon tricot.

A quote from this week's Manook News: "Public relations 2an be regarded as one of the ubricants of democracy, overnmental and industrial irocesses are becoming increasingly complex. It is through public relations that these processes can be made intelligible to the people at Indira Ghandi, Prime Minister of the Public Relations Journal, 10-68. Jim Babb, editor at the Institute of Social, Economic and Government Research, was lame this week and nursing a cold. It all happened because as he put it, "I haven't been on a basketball court in 10 years," and his antics on the courts last week with several other physical fitness buffs left him in a state of near rigor-mortis. The Swedish Women's National Ski Team exhibition which was originally planned for last week will be held instead today and tomorrow.

The exhibition, which will include four members of the team, will end a U.S. tour for the women. From here the women will go back to Sweden to compete in the 1969 Swedish National Championships. Their visit here is being sponsored by the Nordic Ski Club. Team members will perform in the afternoon.

Charlotte Bees, pert administrative secretary to Dean Charles Keim of the College of Arts and Letters, won another first prize last Sunday in Class (for the largest size stock models) of the Fairbanks Snowmobile Association race, a state sanctioned affair, held at the Delta Junction track. Charlotte has a self full of trophies at home won in such competitions, and she is also a licensed pilot. Grace Wong, the new salad chef at the SUB Snack Bar, also doubles as an order chef on occasion. She has been here only three weeks, coming directly from the island of Formosa off the Chinese mainland. Throughout the centuries, disasters have been little or no fun at all for the people involved.

Nobody laughed in San Francisco when the city by the bay nearly slid into the bay in the one possible exception of Clark Gabte. Few chortles were chorused along Chicago's Clark Street in the fall of 1871. Representatives of of A's cooperative extension service recently participated in an overnight, do-it-yourself disaster and agree that it was little or no fun. Jim Matthews, assistant director of the service, Roland Kaven, Pete Probasco, and Ed Liebenthal, district agricultural agents in Fairbanks, Palmer, and Homer, respectively, and Lou Hanks, a rural civil defense specialist from Palmer, recently held a 'sleep-in' in a fall-out shelter, whiling away the hours munching their allotted disaster crackers and three 'gumdrops every two-and-one-half hours. The experiment was a test conducted by the U.S.

Department of Agriculture to measure the preparedness and ability of Alaskans to cope with disasters. The advertisements are filled with glowing claims and it is pretty hard to tell exactly which product will best do the job you need done.

One way you can shop more intelligently is to gain an acquaintance with the ingredients of these home cleaning products and how they compare in performance and safety. The most common ingredients are alkalis, acids, detergents, abrasives, bleaches, sanitizersand spirit solvents. Many extension services of state universities have publications which can help guide you. For example, the New York State College of Home Economics at Cornell University puts out an extension bulletin (number 1213) called "What's in Home Cleaning Why?" It outlines the ingredients and what they do as well as a list of the type of products that contain them. The bulletin emphasizes that all cleaning products can be dangerous if misused.

And it warns that all hazardous substances should be stored out of the reach of children. WHAT ABOUT DENOMINATIOHALISM? If you check the definitions of the word denomination" (Universal Dictionary of the English Language, unabriged) you will find thot there is a genera! sense in which it is used ond a specific (religious or ecclesiastical) sense. I have no objections to the general use of the word for It is not unscriptural. It is indeed alright to coll on organization by its name (PTA, Boy Scouts, etc.) or to call piece of money a ten dollar bill to distinguish it from a On the other hand, the Ecclesiastical Definition is an accurate picture of the leligious world in contrast to the New Testament pattern. A "denomination" IS a separate body of churches wearing a name or having an organization distinguishing it from another bcdy, or other bodies of churches. It has to be a religious body with extra- biblical peculiarities distinguishing it from the church revealed in the.

Bible. It is impossible for any denomination to exist without believing, being, teaching, practising, having SOMETHING that is not in the Word of God. By their very nature, all denominations teach more than or less than who! is revealed in the Bible. The things they teach or prac- tise which are in the Bible do not make them denominations, but those things which distinguish them from the scriptures and from one another, moke them denominations. If they taught only what is in the Bible, they would be "Churches of Christ" (Rom: rather than denominations, and they would be United, not separated by different creeds, names, organizations, types of worship, and so forth.
