The student body feels it hai made a good choice for representa tives of Jefferson Township high school. They have been in the following way. First by election of the "Most est" of our school.

The titles and representatives are: Most intellectual, Mary i 11 i- goss, most popular, Conita Smith, best dressed, Jerry Huff, most likely to succeed, Jerry Hawkins, best personality, Judy Griffith most dependable, Kay McFarland, most tal a i Bonnie Foutch, (Jr.) Second, we elected five candidates for homecoming queen and her, court. The five girls are: Conita Smith, Virginia Newcom, Judy Griffith, Carol Wood, Bonnie Foulch, Of these Virginia Newcom was elected queen. She was crowned by Jerry Huff, last year's homecoming queen. The remaining four were her court. Last but not least, by way of a Bett6 Crocker Homemaking test our high school homemakcr winner was Jerry Huff.

She was awarded a heart shaped pin with a fireplace on it. All of these ways of choosing our best chool representatives, which we feel has been -successfully completed. The freshmen class has ordered its. class sweaters. They are red with white letters outline din black.

Our most recent PTO meeting was conducted January 19, at Goldsmith school. Pro jects discussed were: buying 10 banquet tables, a used piano for the high school music department and! seesaws for Goldsmith school. Also, it has been the custom in the past for Jefferson township to hold a spring carnival as a means of. raising money. A jvote by ballot was taken but the ballots have not been counted.

IJated at Tipton, Indiana, this 16th day of January, 1959. HUTTO RKGXIEU, Attorney PAUL II. JONES, Clerk of the Circuit Court for Tipton County, Indiana 92-98-101 READ THE CLASSIFIED -Circle T-V CLINICi OPEN FOR BUSINESS i FEBRUARY 9 1 Scirclesville tnd: things all men l.v. PICTURE YOUR TOWN WITHOUT A NEWSPAPER! Downright compulsive, isn't it, this consuming curiosity about what's going on around town? you're not nosey just curious. You believe that most of your public servants are that your police and courts are free from corruption that the politicians' aren't plotting to steal the city hall.

And then you try to picture your town without a newspaper! Dimly, you recall something that Thomas Jefferson once said: "Were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without government, I should not hesitate to prefer the latter." Nonsense! That was long ago. It's dif- ferent'now. This is the electronic age. What with split split stocks and split second' jet-way-of-living we now have all sorts checker-uppers on our civic goings-on. But we? Let's take inventory.

Whatever wonders and wizardries communication offers today, one thing remains same: the heart of Hie free press is still the good reporter. And the good newspaper its printed word documenting human hap- pen'mgs is still the initial instrument in the protection of rights and liberties throughout the land. The fact is plain. And it's -reiterated in the record: Almost every day some American newspaper. ranging in size from the mighty -metropolitan daily to the small town weekly acclaimed for its constructive efforts in helping to-build a better community or for its vigilance -in searching out and snuffing out corruption, tyranny and injustice.

In this service, traditionally and inimitably the newspaper is still supreme. So, if you will, 'keep on taking your free press for granted. But if you value your freedom don't let anything -or anybody take your newspaper away from you. TIPTON TRIBUNE OS 5-2115.
