Reno Evening Gazette Monday, Dec. 8, 1975 5 Gazette review UNR forums dramatize death get perking! see our great gifts for coffee lovers it Michelle Sheppard seemed aware of the nuances of her role as the old cast-off, but physically she suggested a much younger person. The cast of the Albee play was directed by Jeanny Pontrelli and included playwright Hank Nuwer in the role of The Young Man. The plays led into a forum on "American Attitudes Toward Death," in which the audience and the actors participated, moderated by Rev. John Dodson and Dr.

Robert Barnet. The forum considered the issues of human values and ways of dying that were implied or stated in the plays Just preceding. This unusual evening was the first presentation of a new theater group known as the Stagecoach Players. The group's stated purpose is to alternate productions of works By established playwrights and local talent. An admirable fiurpose, but, among other things, the groups should look or a better hall in which to perform.

Travis Lounge has a flat floor and Friday's light set-up intruded between the audience and the players. Unfortunately, good halls for such performing groups are not easy to find. Two 15-minute segments are not sufficient evidence by which to judge either Nuwer's writing or the Stagecoach Players talents fairly. If the group carries out its objective, another longer evening of theater when the play and not the forum is the thing will give us a truer sample of the scope of its abilities. By AMERICO CHIARITO Two one-act plays, each running about 15 minutes, served as an introduction to a forum on the subject of death at the University of Nevada, Reno Jot Travis Lounge Friday night.

Hank Nuwer's "Beyond Survival" received its first performance on this occasion. Written in 1972 and published in Janus the same year, the play had been extensively re-written before its presentation Friday night. The storv line is a simple one, dealing with government-regulated euthanasia in the perhaps not-too-distant future. Nuwer's play is well-constructed, direct, and to the point. Sally Sakowicz, as a nurse determining the destruction or survival of new-born infants according to government regulations, and Tom McGorty, as a young father auestioning the wisdom of the system, were able to suggest le complexities of their relationships.

Tony Sakowicz directed, with a stage crew including Rich LaTourrette, Michael and Jeanny Pontrelli, Gary Nelson, John Seman and Dick Patterson. In contrast, Edward Albee's "The Sandbox," premiered in New York in 1960, deals, not with infants, but with society's treatment of the elderly. In its barely IS pages of printed text, the play conveys with humor and insight the plight of an octagenarian consigned by her children to a sandbox the symbol of the nation's old folks' homes and retirement centers. rohem'ie i4i (7? a 4' AftftVM Wt hot lay-away lor Christmas "TTy SPECIAL This Week Sterling Silver 1 stone turquoite brgcelett limited Liquid Silver Chokers Various assortment Otda'f fit, ton i'mtliy no, in lmi 1m Chntma SIR LOIN'S FAMILY RESTAURANT NOW1 A complete menu featuring: This Week Only Wednesday evening Free Ice Cream or Sherbet with all dinners DINNERS Steak, chicken or shrimp all dinners complete with soup or salad, baked potato or rench fries.
