Sportscope A.G. Morgan Billy Sims Day Billy Sims Day was being prepared Friday in Hooks, Texas. The opportunity for me to visit the small East Texas town came about because Paris High basketballers were playing in Texarkana Friday afternoon. In case you've been to the Orient the past week you should know that Sims, who is from Hooks, and plays at the University of Oklahoma, won the Heisman Trophy this past week as the nation's best college football player so the Hooks residents prepared a special day for Billy yesterday which included a parade and a barbecue. There were a couple of signs erected proclaiming that Billy won the Heisman and people all over town were talking about it.

When asked of an elderly gentlemen where Billy Sims Rd. was located he said, "Oh, everybody knows where that is. It's right down there." Sure enough, it was. He got away Speaking of Paris playing in Texarkana. The Wildcats played Longview Pine Tree and several thousand missed the event.

They also missed the Longview coach losing his cool quite often. He also was never dismissed from the contest. After getting one technical early in the contest for saying something sort of derogatory, he then whistle. The ref said he did so the Longview coach proceeded to ask one of the officials if he had a' ask him to blow it to see if it worked. He didn't get a technical for that.

Next came the real excitement. The coach heaved a water bottle against the stands. No technical. He threw a folding chair against the stands. No technical.

He kicked a chair against the stands. No technical. And, he won the game. I'd hate to see the guy when he's losing. Prairland cancellations Prairiland basketball coach Lloyd Simmons informed me Saturday morning that a couple of upcoming games have been cancelled.

The games of Dec. 5 at home against Pittsburg and Dec. 12 at Pittsburg will not be played because the Pirates are still competing in the football playoffs. If any of you coaches have an open date (s) contact Simmons at Prairiland High School. He'll oblige.

It's possible Would it be too far-reaching to think that Texas Ranger wheeler-dealer Brad Corbett would go after Sparky Anderson to manager Rangers and leave Pat Corrales out in the cold? Would it? Not really. It would not be surprising at all. It won't be long Reason no All-District rules state that the allleague team must be picked at the site of the district champion. Coleman's wife was hospitalized recently. According to PHS Coach Bill Hicks the coaches are to convene on Atlanta Monday or Tuesday to pick the team.

There are gainers galore in the backfield led by the powerful Hadnot, a junior, Texas Curtis Dickey and Ben Cowins of Arkansas and Emmett King of Houston, who tied in the balloting. Danny Davis, the slick senior quarterback from Houston who delivered in the clutch in vital games against Texas and Arkansas, wrested the No.
