Powell was appointed deputy district attorney of Pershing county at a meeting of the commissioners this week. He will assist Clarence L. Young, who was appointed attorney when Booth B. Goodman, resigned. Mr.

Powell acted as district attorney during Mi. Soodman's absence. At the meeting P. H. Wolf was reappointed game warden and Dr.

Francis M. West was again given the position of county physician. Mr. and Mrs. J.

C. Smith are to have charge of the county indigents. The commissioners also granted an additional levy for farm bureau purposes and it was decided to hold a special meeting to consider plans for the organization of an irrigation district NORTHERN COUNTIES HAVE LITTLE SNOW PARADISE, Jan. 7 (Snecial) The snow cover in Northern Elko and Humboldt counties is less than normal, according to reports that have been received in Paradise. At Owyhee, Northern Elko county, the snow cover is considerably below normal, while in the northern part of Humboldt county in the Paradise mountains, only the mountain tops and canyons show white.

7. (Special). The rabies situation in Douglas county is considerably improved but drastic measures are being to stamp it out entirely. Dr. Baker has been employed by the county in co-operation i with the state rabies commission.

Over 150 dogs have been immunized and it is hoped that within a few days every dog will be treated. FORMER NEVADAN HURT IN CRASH VIRGINIA CITY, Jan. 7. (Special). Miss Helen Harrison, a former resident here, was seriously hurt in an automobile wreck on New Year's Eve, while' driving with a party of young people to a dance near Taft, Cal.

A collision occurred with a truck in a dense fog. Miss Harrison receiving a bad cut in the scalp and being bruised severely. One of the young men was instantly killed, and a young woman companion of Miss Harrison sustained a broken arm. He said he would fight the ease to -a finish but changed his mind. Looking backward he observed the most prominent business men awaiting to serve on the jury and he knew it was "all off." "This is a picked jury," he whispered hoarsely to his attorney. "They could not have done better if they had picked the bunch from a Methodist church." Then the attorney threw the case on, the mercy of the court, the jury was -dismissed and the court said he would impose sentence next day. ELKO PROPOSES TOURIST CAMP ELKO, Jan.

7 (Special). If actions of the Chamber of Commerce and city council are indicative Elko may have a tourist camp in time for the 1926 season. The subject has been under discussion for a 'long time. The commerce men have indorsed the plan and the city council will have a survey made of the China ranch with a view of selecting the most desirable site. B.

MRS. E. SULLIVAN GUEST OF HONOR LOVELOCK, Jan. 7 (Special). The members of Alpha Temple No.

21. Pythian Sisters, gave an enjoyable party Tuesday evening at the Masonic hall in honor of Mrs. Eugene Sullivan, a member of Alpha Temple who was recently married. Mrs. Sullivan was presented with a lovely wedding gift, a framed picture.

"The End of the Trail." A short program of songs and speeches was enoyed followed with the serving of refreshments to a gathering of over thirty members. DOUGLAS COUNTY PHYSICIAN NAMED MINDEN, Jan. 7. (Special). Dr.

William J. Van Den Berg was appointed Douglas county physician at a meeting of the commissioners Tuesday. Five Humboldt county stockmen are attending the annual stock show in Ogden, Utah, and expect to ship several carloads of pure bred back as additions to their herd's.

The stockmen now in "Utah are (Jeorge Wilkinson and Robert Bankifier of McDermitt; F. Steward and Harry Stock of Paradise Valley and Chalmers McCor-mick, superintendent of the Utah Construction Company ranch near McDermitt. Wilkinson plans to purchase a carload of bulls and Stewart and Stock are Expected to make extensive purchases. McCormick said that his company probably will buy a number of animals and feed them in Ogden for a time before shippin-to Humboldt county. COUPE IS BURNED ON JUMBO GRADE VIRGINIA CITY, Jan.

7. (Special). A light coupe owned by a local Mexican was burned -up on the Jumbo grade a few night ago, the cause of which is more or less mystery. Returning to this city from Reno, the car became stalled, and the owner walked into this city in order to go to work in the mines, leaving the car alongside of the road at the lower end of the grade. Going out the next day to bring the car in, he found it mass of ruins, having caught lire during the night.

There was no evidence that the car had been robbed of parts PRISONER REMOVED TO CARSON JAIL TONOPAH. Jan. 7. (Special L. Cone is in jail at Carson City following the appearance here of Deputy United States Marshal Lyman Fulton, two 'months after he was arrested by Chief of Police Galvin on the charge of operating a still that was found in the former residence of Clint Sparks, near the Tonopah Kxtension mine.

Since his arrest Cone has occupied quarters in the Nye county jail for reason that the federal forces had no room for more prisoners. Cone formerly operated the Collins saloon at Lida where he gained a reputation as a scrapper. DOUGLAS, TONOPAH TEAMS TO MEET GARDXERVILLE, Jan. 7. (Special).

The Douglas county high school basket ball teams and the Tonopah teams are to meet at Gardrierville tonight. The Douglas teams have won two games so far this year and exciting contests are looked for. LEGION INSTALLS CARSON, Jan. 7. (Special).

Capitol Tost of the American Legion Installed Archie Pozzi as commander; Robert Sturgeon as vice commander, and Chester Newnham as finance officer at a meeting last evening. COMSTOCK BRIEFS VIRGINIA CITY, Jan. 7. (Special). The public schools all opened after the holidays with a good enrollment.

Basket ball is now occupying the students attention and practice is being held at Piper's opera house. Virginia lodge No. 1, I. O. O.

F. and Colfax lodge will hold a joint installation of officers tomorrow evening. Mrs. Edward Overton of Mina, is convalescing from an operation for appendicitis at the local hospital. A distinct earthquake shock was experienced in- this city Monday evening about o'clock, being reported from different sections of the district.

Attorney F. -J. Blake and family have returned to Oakland after spending the holidays in this city. Mrs. George.

Wright has returned from San Francisco where, she spent the holidays with relatives. Mrs. Leon Bishop and daughter have gone to Lafayette, where they will reside. Attorney Gray Mashburn of Reno, was a visitor to this city on Tues-da y. Mrs.

Jan. 7. (Special). Samples taken from the face of the east orebody on the 1220 level of the white Cans mine at Man hattan returned erold contents of 103.60 as shown by a report re ceived Tuesday by John G. Kirchen, general manager of the property, which is now controlled by the Kirehen-Cole syndicate.

The sample was taken from the face of a drift extended seventy feet easterly on the vein. On the west side of the shaft the orebody has been' proved for a distance of eighty feet with a width of five feet and returning an average value of $60. "The 1220 level Is as much richer than the 1120," said Mr. Kirchen, "as the 1120 was richer than the eight hundred level." ELKO'S LIBRARY PLANS ARE MADE ELKO, Jan. 7.

(Special). Under present plans Mrs. E. E. Caine, widow of the late E.

E. Caine, will become librarian of Elko's proposed library. The commissioners have appropriated $750 for the first six months. The library was started and maintained by the Twentieth Century Club for three years. ELKO HOSPITAL MATRON NAMED ELKO, Jan.

7. (Special. Miss Rose has been chief surgical nurse at the hospital, was appointed matron yesterday to succeed Louise ii. Heaston. Mrs.

Heaston resigned the first of the year. Frank Middleton was appointed game warden and Edgar Littlefield was appointed court house janitor. Mrs. Rose Kelly will continue in her position at the hospital. GENOA CARS CRASH BOTH ARE DAMAGED MINDEN, Jan.

7. (Special). Autos driven by Lloyd Wyatt and Jack Quill collided at Genoa during the week, both cars being badly damaged. Mr. Wyatt's little daughter was thrown out of his machine but was not injured.
