Joe Johnson Hurt In Crash On Highway 19 $6950 Bond Sale At Laddonia Most For Some Months By Mrs. K. G. Kennen LADDONIA Joe Johnson is confined to his home after a couple of days in Audrain Hospital being treated for injuries received when he was in a collision of his automobile and a truck on Highway 19 near the Martinsburg overpass one evening about a week ago. His car, a 1950 Ford sedan, was completely demolished in the accident which came about after he had fallen asleep while driving according to reports.

His injuries while not too serious or painful. Mrs. D. C. Hatton who has been ill for some time is reported not so well this week.

Max Kennen went to Columbia Monday where he has enrolled at Missouri University for the next semester as a senior expecting to receive his degree in June. Mark Spurlock accompanied him to Columbia Monday afternoon. Don Nichols who attends school in Kirksville spent the weekend with homefolk. $6950.00 worth of T7. S.

Savings Bonds were purchased during Jan- urary at the Laddonia Post Office which is the largest total for some months. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ward and son and Delbert Lee Avery and Miss Margaret Fairbairn of Chicago were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs.

Chester Avery. Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Hoover and family of Springfield, 111., were guests of Mr. and Mrs.

Guy Ashlock during the weekend. Mrs. Ashlock and Mr. Hoover are brother and sister. Present at the Baptist Sunday school Sunday morning were 77 with an offering of at the Christian Church 103 with $20.21 as offering and at the Presbyterian 50 were present with $7.66 offering.

Floyd Britton of Spokane, spent the weekend with relatives here as he was enroute home from a business trip in the east. He was honored Saturday evening at a family dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elton Britton with Mr. and Mrs.

Floyd Newberry of Jacksonville, came Thursday to be with her mother, Mrs. Carrie Hisle who remains seriously ill at the home of another daughter, Mrs. George Dyer, here. The Delta Dek Card Club was sntertained last Wednesday afternoon in the new home of Mrs. Jerry Fowles.

Mrs. W. W. Jones became a new member, replacing Mrs. George Clarke who resigned her membership.

Score favors for the afternoon went to Mrs. Elmer Bennett, Mrs. George Clarke and Mrs. Frank Kesler. Mrs.

Fowles served a dessert luncheon as refreshments. Mrs. J. E. Rogers spent Saturday with her mother Mrs.

J. W. Carter in Perry. Mr. and Mrs.

Louis Schmidt visited his sister, Mrs. J. W. Clark southeast of Laddonia Saturday afternoon. Mr.

and Mrs. Walter Berry and children, Mr. and Mrs. Bates Nelson, Mrs. Stanley Nelson and Miss May Parker spent Sunday with Mr.

and Mrs. Eddie Parker and family near Mexico. Pfc. Frank Edward Parker is here for a fur- lough with his family before leaving for overseas duty the last of this week. Mrs.

Diggs spent Sunday and Monday with relatives of Mrs. Moore in St. Louis. Mr. and Mrs.

Arthur Cheney and daughter, Miss Wanda, spent the weekend in St. Louis with Mr. and Mrs. Delmer Reeves and daughters and attended the Auto Show. Wesley Schafer of southeast of Laddonia was admitted to Audrain Hospital Monday morning.

Marilyn Garnett celebrated her 6th birthday Saturday afternoon at a party for little friends arranged by her mother, Mrs. Butler Garnett. The guests enjoyed games for an hour and were given favors by the hostess and served refreshments. Invited were Carol and Wayne Shaw, Kenny Jones, Gary Breneman, Billy Shinn, Wayne Sims, Marie Kesler, Shirley and Kay Lower and Virginia Ann James. Mrs.

Mollie Teague is on the sick list this week and is with her daughter, Mrs. Price Jeffries. Mrs. Harold James and son of Mexico were guests in the Jeffries home for Monday. Clinton Langford after spending a furlough with home folk left Monday for Florida where he will be stationed with the Marines, for a further period of training.

He Proposals For Schools Soon At Vandalia Superintendent Makes Report To Club Members By Mrs. Hattie C. Davis VANDALIA Winston Morlan, superintendent of the Vandalia schools, was invited to attend the regular meeting of the Aweont Club Monday evening to inform the club on the school situation as far as the reorganization of the district is concerned. Mr. Morlan said at the present time plans for such have been laid aside, but some new proposals will be presented to the board in a short time for discussion and then presented to the public for their approval.

It is hoped that some action may be taken that we may have a better school system and alleviate some of the overflow which now exists, he said. Some very timely departmental reports were given on Foreign Policy. The first was given by Mrs. Art Woodward, "Digest of the Foreign Policy of the USA." She told of the Marshall plan and the many different departments and sixty countries now belonging to the UN. Mrs.

Rual Morris, in the absence of Mrs. Charles Pearson, gave the second report on the "US and the UN, Where We Stand." Mrs. 'Louis Schulze, gave the third and last report on the 1952 UNESCO developments from literature brought back from the meeting that Mrs. J. Parish attended in Paris, France, last year.

Mrs. Howard Smith served lovely refreshments. The next meeting will be with Mrs. John Byram. The program will be in charge of took his basic in California.

Mr. and Mrs. K. G. Kennen attended the funeral services for Judge Glover Dowell in Montgomery City Tuesday afternoon.

Mrs. Alice Kniepfel of Mexico and Mrs. Tyree Derrick of St. Louis, were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs.

D. S. Christopher. On Sunday the Christophers and their guests were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs.

Howard Christopher and family. Mrs. Lelia Martin and Mrs. J. H.

Brown who is spending the winter with Mrs. Martin in Mexico were in Laddonia Monday. A number from the congregation of the Laddonia Presbyterian Church went to -Perry Wednesday evening to 'attend the services when Rev. E. C.

Williams was installed as minister for the Perry Church including, Mr. and Mrs. William Ehrlich, Mr. and Mrs. John Hitz, Mr.

and Mrs. Emil Erdel, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Gruer, Mr. and Mrs.

Joe Teague, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Klusman and Mrs. H. L.

Hickman. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Klusman, Mr. and Mrs.

Kenneth Gore and Mr. and Mrs. Arch Hays attended the Parade of Quartets in Mexico Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs.

Everette Watts and children attended funeral services for her uncle, W. L. Duffy at Kirksville Friday. Mrs. Duffy, is the former Miss Blanche Sipple and a former teacher at the Cauthorn School near Laddonia.

Mrs. Alice Brown has taken a room, with Mrs. G. W. Bentley and will close her home.

Miss Lois Irene Ehrlich who attends Missouri University spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Ehrlich. She was accompanied here by Mrs. Herbert Phillips and son, Jim of Columbia who were guests in the Ehrlich home for the day.

Misses Betty and Sue Hitz students of the University ware also here for Sunday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hitz. Mr. and Mrs.

C. R. Jones entertained at a family dinner Sunday honoring Mr. Jones mother, Mrs. P.

E. Jones, for her eightieth birthday. The affair was a surprise to the honoree. Attending were Mr. and Mrs.

Howard Hunter, Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt Hunter and three children. Mr. and Mrs.

Emil Akers, Mrs. Mary Stuart and Gordon Gatewood of Eolia, Mrs. Don Crow and son of Farber, Mrs. Warren Selleck and Steve Bruton. Mr.

and Mrs. Jones served a turkey dinner to their guests. Mrs. Walter Akridge had as guests for noonday dinner on Sunday, Mrs. G.

W. Bentley, Mrs. W. G. Bailey, Mrs.

Leslie Brown and Mrs. F. M. Brashears. Mrs.

T. A. Brown arrived home from St. Louis Monday morning after spending the month of January with her children in St. Louis.

Mrs. W. A. Schulz arrived home Saturday from a several weeks visit with her daughter, Mrs. Jack Evered and family in St.

B. Baize called at the home of the late Judge Glover Dowell in Montgomery City Sunday afternoon and spent Sunday night with Mrs. A. A. Markovich in Wellsville.

Mrs. C. G. Daniel entered the Audrain Hospital in Mexico Saturday for treatment. The Golden Rule Class of the Methodist Church School held its regular fnonthly meeting at the home of Mrs.

J. H. Davis. There were twelve present, including one guest, Lester Armstrong of Streator. 111.

Mrs. Edith Laird had the worship service, using the 121st Psalm. A number of hymns were sung, including, "Jesus is Always There." The president, Isaac Clithero, conducted the business session. Roll call was answered by a scripture quotation, and a story by Mrs. F.

H. Naysmith. In the social hour refreshments of sandwiches, cookies and hot cocoa were served. The next meeting will be with Mr. and Mrs.

Mrs. Fauth announced tho Young People's meeting February 13 and Mission study for the young people on February 16. Mrs. Otis Forgy gave the Stewardship report, and a goal of $150.00 was set for the Annie Armstrong offering for Home Missions. The W.M.U.

is preparing a Sunshine Basket for Mrs. Fred Neiger of Columbia. Dismissed with prayer by Mrs. George Bailey. The Ollie Rose Circle had charge of the social hour during which rofreshments were served.

Fire Fighting Plan At Farber Is Under Way Dalton Williams Home Soon From Korean Duty By Mrs. T. N. Turpin aldermen called a mass meeting of citizens at the school house Thursday evening to discuss needs of fire protection. Vandalia had a plan they offered and Laddonia had one to offer.

Both freely discussed. The city council was also working on a plan that the town buy fire equipment through a bond issue. This plan was favorably accepted. More detailed plans on this will be worked this idea before submitting the bond issue. Walter Howell and daughter, Mary Jane of near Curryville, were Wednesday evening dinner guests of Mr.

Mr. and Mrs. George Shanklin of Burlington, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hawk and Mrs.

Ray Scott of White Hall, 111., and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Talkington and Joan were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Talkington.

Mrs. Scott and the Hawk family arrived Saturday from a visit at La Mesa, California, enroute to their home. Mrs. Scott remained at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Talkington to visit this week. Mr. and Mrs. C. B.

Hull were guests of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Wallen at Perry Sunday.

T. H. Kemp of Vandalia, visited the bedside of their brother, Herschel Woodson at Paris. Mr. Webber was in the Woodson home Saturday night helping with the care of Mr.

Woodson. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hull and children and Mrs. C.

B. Hull were Hannibal business visitors Saturday. Mrs. T. A.
