Assemblyman Ray Knisley of Pershing County said the situa tion points up a glaring weakness in state ownership of property, and he felt the legislative com mission should come up with a recommendation for a change at the next session. Except for University of Nevada property, Knisley said, all other property should be held in the name of the State of Nevada rather than by any agency.

Sen. Wilson McGowan, R-Per shing, asked if the constitution would not prohibit an agency of the government from mortgaging state property. McDonald said there is no con stitutional prohibition to this type of financing. The title of the ranch was vested in the Fish and Game Commission. If the commission did default on the McDonald said, and the sale of the ranch did not cover the loan, the bank could not come back against the state for the deficiency.

In other action, the commission gave silent consent to working out a conflict between the way money was appropriated and and the need for construction at the Verdi Fish Hatchery. Money for water development and rearing ponds were appropri ated for 161 while money for a new hatchery building does not become available until July 1 of 1962. However the building is needed before the ponds. The commission also heard a report by L. E.

Tyson, D-Clark, on an investigation of the State Highway Department. He told lawmakers almost all of the things complained of during the last ses sion had been corrected. "We are now very happy with the way the department is work ing," Tyson said. He said also that the department was cooperating very well with the U.S. Bureau of Public Roads.

Louis 12 00c b. I 8 Lavtons Sold New Owners Will Remodel The sale of Law ton's Hot Springs about five miles west of Reno on U.S. Highway 40 for an estimated $300,000 was announced Thursday. Mark L. Yori of Santa Cruz, and Lois E.

Yori, of Reno, half owners of the 27-acre resort have sold the property to three California couples. Buying one-hall interest is George J. and Barbara A. Ruppert, of Auburn, Calif, with Mr. and Mrs.

Clarence E. Cran-dall of Auburn, and Mr. and Donald R. DeRoza, of Dutch Flats, each purchasing one-fourth interests. A deed of trust filed Thursday with the Washoe County Recorder shows a balance on the escrow of 5175,000.

Manager Patrick Macken, speaking for the new owners, said a $400,000 remodeling program is under way at the resort with work scheduled to be completed by May. New tile is being installed at the indoor and outdoor pools and work will be done to open the golf course, tennis courts and facilities for horse riding. New name of the hot springs will be Bud Ruppert's Holiday Lodge. Ruppert owns other Holiday Lodges at Stateline and Grass Valley and Sacramento, Calif. A Canadian firm is being hired to run the restaurant at the club and the inside of the building is being rejuvenated, Macken said.

He added that negotiations are under way with the Southern Pacific Railroad Co. to allow construction of an overpass or an underpass of SP tracks to allow easy access to the business. Prop erty involved in the sale lies on both sides of the Truckee River. Macken said there would be no table gaming and that the owners are trying for a "country club" effect. He emphasized, how ever, that there would be no priv ate membership to the facilities.

At present only the motel and hot baths part of the business are open.
