As of now, he said, that part of the capital spending for 1969 that can't be covered by funds generated internally would have to be financed publicly. Mr. Brockett said this would include institutional borrowing and also financing in Europe: B. R. Dorsey, Gulf president, said the firm and a Japanese partner, which hold 294,000 acres in the Cook inlet in Alaska, are scheduling a wildcat drilling program for 1969. Mr. Dorsey also said Gulf is actively engaged in securing a position on the north slope in Alaska. Pittway A Partner Pittway Corp. and Metropolitan Structures Inc. said they have signed an agreement making Pittway a 10 per cent partner in the Chicago real estate development firm. The firms plan to construct 10 high rise office and residential buildings in Chicago. Pittway said its initial investment in the ventures will be $7 million. Wool worth Safes Up F. W. Woolworth Co. sales last month totaled $119,995,514, an increase of over 20 per cent compared to January 1968, H. E. Moedinger, regional vice president, said. Firm Hikes Price Wheeling - Pittsburgh Steel Corp. has f o 1 1 o w e d action taken by U. S. Steel Corp. and raised the base price for hot-rolled carbon steel strip to $129 a ton. The company also said it has revised downward in extra charges for size and picking processes that would offset some of the base price hike. Tanker Ta Be Christened The third in a series of the world's largest tankers will be christened the "Universe Japan" by Princess Hitachi in the Yokohama shipyard of Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., in Japan today. The ships .are designed for the special needs of Gulf Oil Corp. and will be under long-term charter to Gulf. Chafenje Dropped Sharon Steel Corp. is halting litigation challenging the consummation of the offer of NVF Co. to issue debentures and stock purchase warrants in exchange for Sharon stock, according to George Perrault Jr., Sharon chairman and president. Hew Company Fluid Density, a new com pany, with A. G. Brewer as president, has been organized in Pittsburgh to market a newly-formulated coal spray additive on which an application is being processed. Other officers are: R. B. Russell, vice president-marketing, and Lee Miller, secretary. News -Chatter In Wall Street NEW YORK (LTD - Tight money has finally caused the market to turn, with fundamentals and the market final ly in gear on the downside, according to Reynolds & Co. "This is not the time to be a hero or have pride in a previous erroneous position," the firm said. Rather, it is a time "for caution, for getting your house in order, and for considering the possibility of an unpleasant correction of some real speculative excesses." Though the rapid decline of the market last week may suggest a technical, or "soda pop'" rally is a nearby possibility, Spear & Staff believes "a long period of consolidation or base building may be necessary before any. rallying tendency will be taken at more than face value." The market is "extremely sensitive" at present, the firm says, and the light downside volume of trading suggests that a "selling climax" heavy morning selling followed by heavy afternoon buying is still some distance away. E. F. Hutton & Co. observes that the short interest for February is slightly lower than it was in January, but that this is not expected to be much of a market factor. It ways the short interest figures probably are already out of date, having a settlement date of Feb. 14 and therefore a trade date of Feb. 7. "If the odd-lot short figures are any indication, shorting has increased substantially in recent session s," the firm says. Oiv.
