Distribution will be through the educational radio and TV center, Ann Arbor, Mich. Brod iht With HQ The Law As 'Highway Patrolman' He Outranks Webb HE dust of the California I desert swirled up as the familiar black-and-white car of the law pulled up before the cameras. And out jumped Broderick Crawford, playing for one of the few times in his career, a fellow on the right side of the law. Brod is starring in the syndicated film scries, "Highway Patrol." "Highway Patrol" is seen Wednesday nights on Channel 2, Thursday nights on Chan' nel 9, Friday nights on Channel 6.1 Where most actors bewail the rigors of television its long hours and hard work the burly Oscar-winner (for "All the King's is thriving on his almost round-the-clock schedule.

"The only time I'm unhappy to when I'm not working hard," Crawford grinned. "And I don't know of an eusk'r way to low weight." Crawford went on to laud the duties of the Highway Patrol, with whose activities 'he becomes more and more familiar. "I'd always thought the Highway Patrol handed out tickets for driving too fast," he explained. "I've since found out, from the technical adviser we have on the set all the time, that they participate in all phases of felonies. This makes it great for our show, for we can delve into all types of stories, and never get into a rut." Another facet of Highway Patrol which amuses Crawford is the fact that he outranks Jack Webb.

"Some states, you see, have Highway Patrols whereas others have State Patrols. Their functions are pretty much the same, but the titles of their officers differ. In some states an inspector is the top guy; in others, he's between a sergeant and lieutenant. So, we've given me no particular title just the boss, while Webb is still a sergeant," he grinned. 13-SCHOOLTIME (Cont.) 2:45 P.
