Majors Extend Roster Deadline CHICAGO, May 8 (UP) Major baseball leagues have extended until June 15 the deadline for re ducing their squads to 25 players. Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis, baseball's high commissioner, said the extension was to apply to the 1944 season only.

Previously, the clubs have had to reduce their squads within 30 days after the opening of the season. Landis also said the major leagues had approved, by mail vote, a proposal to shorten the time in which a player may return to tne active list from voluntary retirement. Sports Stew Adam Walsh, center and captain of the famed 1924 Notre Dame foot ball team known as the "Four Horsemen and the Seven Mules" was appointed assistant football coach for the duration, at his alma mater today. The Rev. Hugh O'Donnell, C.

S. president of Notre Dame, announced that Walsh had been given leave of absence from his position as head coach at Bowdoin College, New Brunswick, to accept the position with Notre Dame. Cost of War By the end of June, this war will have cost the United States five times as much as the war of 1914-1918, accounts to the Treasury Department. Death Notices ALliK On Monday.
