Also winning hearty approval of former commissioners was the proposal to change from $100 to $1,000 the amount of goods that must he bought by bids.

At present all items Aver $100 can be bought only after sealed bids are advertised and received A general ham-stringing of govern meat is caused by the delay, pres ent commissioners said. It boiled down to that you can' buy much for $100 any more, as one commissioner pointed out. A proposal that city commission eri receive as compensation fo serving, 110 for each regular meet ing and $5 for each additions meeting, not to exceed $25 for any one month, brought a mixed re action from the former commis lioners, who, like the presen ones, served gratis. One former commissioner though making it a paying job might tltiact men who were after the money, only. E.

J. Williams, a former commissioner, wanted to know if the proposal couldn't be retroactive. Gambill pointed out that many man-hours are spent each month on city business; and that the small amount proposed was certainly not commensurate for the time given commissioners. Most hearty support, perhaps, was the proposal to set up voting boxes in other parts of the city. At present the only box for city elections is at the Central Fire Station.

With population becoming greater and the city expanding, Gambill said that many voters hated to breve the lung lines at the one fire hall box, and thereby would not vote. He said that placing boxes in other parts of the city, would not mean that the city would be divided into precincts, but would mean that residents would have an opportunity to vote easier. The number of precincts and voting boxes would be determined by commissioners for each election, the proposal states. Former commissioners present were W. W.

King, Dr. Jack Johnson, Ed Williams, George Fritz W. C. Orr, Henry Caddel Leon Sparlcman, C. E.

Craln, T. Caruthers and Claude Castleberry. Rogers Tcel, former city attor ney, was also present.
