Lewis Browne and Ely Cul-bertson were well received 'by a Reno Town Hall audience. in their debate at the Tower theater Tuesday night. Mr. Browne, taking the negative side of the subject, spoke first.

Both speakers were introduced by Dr. John Moseley, who acted as moderator. Mr. Browne described nationalism as obsolete and added that if cused of depredations' recently in the Goldfield hotel building which has been unoccupied for some time. Arthur Gray of Los Angeles, owner of the property, arrived here last week and after examining the hotel said that considerable damage had been done.

He said a fire had been built in one of the bathtubs, furniture on the first and co. for the second year at a meeting this week of the concern's trustees. Others named to offfce were Hazel Bigelow, vice president, and E. W. Miller, secretary and treasurer.

First order of business as the stockholders conducted their yearly meeting was the election of the Mono Land Fight Told Descriptions of his fight against efforts by the city of Los Angeles to purchase land in Mono county, Calif, for what has been termed "protection of the metropolis' water supplies' from polution" were given Smith Valley Rotary club members this week by Walter Evans, Mono county district attorney. The land in question is of importance to many Smith Valley residents, Rotary members indicated, because of its use by many stock raisers in that area as summer range. After Mr. Evans outlined the present status of the dispute, the Rotar club agreed to approve a resolution at its next meeting opposing the purchase. The resolution will be sent to congress where legislation is now pending which would authorize Los Angeles to purchase Mono county land for $1.25 an acre.

Farmers Agency Issues Report SUSANVILLE, Jan. 16. Report of activities of the Farmers home administration in Lassen, Modoc and Plumas counties for 1946 was released this week by Traver W. Goethe, FHA supervisor. He said the report also covered activities of the farm security administration which was merged into the farmer home administration last Nov.

1. In 1946, the local FHA office loaned $35,025 to seventeen farmers. Seven of these loans were to veterans of world war II to buy livestock, machinery, feed, seed, fer-ti lizer and other operating needs. Principal and interest repayments on outstanding operating loans totalled $48,305.27 at the end of the year. Mr.

Goethe said that most borrowers were paying ahead on their loans now, when farm prices are good in order to protect themselves against any future drop in prices. Delinquency on repayments of both interest and principal the first of this year amounted to less than 3 per cent on all loans serviced by this office, the supervisor said. Mr. Goethe said that his office has received one-third more applications for FHA assistance than were made a year ago and that half again as many loans were made to new borrowers. He attributed the increase to the larger number of veteran applications.

Nationalism is unhealthy and evil, Mr. Browne argued, and is a recent step in social growth. Nationalism came later to the U.

S. than to other countries, he said, growing up after the civil war and aided by the continent spanning railroads and telegraph lines. "Any war now is a civil war," he said. We must become human beings instead of Americans', Englishmen, Russians or other nationalities, he 'said, and added that the peoples of the world must will world unity. Mr.

Browne, a writer and commentator, also is a visiting lecturer at a number of universities. He made several trips to Reno during the war to speak at the army air base. In opposition, -Mr. Culbertson asserted that internationalists were the "lunatic fringe" or naive "Utopians." The dominant force today is nationalism and it will remain dominant, Mr. Culbertson declared.

He stressed the practical difficulties of a united world, pointing out that there existed neither an international law, nor courts nor police force to enforce the regulations of such an ideal society. Mr. Culbertson proposed instead that we recognize nationalism, our loyalties to our nation, and devote our efforts to the creation of a workable world government to keep peace. He proposed reforms of the United Nations to abolish the veto in the security council in matters of aggression or preparation for aggression; international control of atomic energy and heavy armaments with an allotment of armament production to each country; and the formation of an international police force from the small countries of the world. He told the audience that we must evolve a plan or we would scon have no worries.

He said that he believed a third destructive war would come unless a world organi-eation with power is developed. Mr. Culbertson also said that the U. S. must choose between world -peace or world conquest.
