THE TOMS River North basket ball team hasn't won many games this season, but it will remember last night's. With 10 seconds left, senior Jason Spano buried a three-pointer to give the Mariners (4-13) a come-from-be-hind 50-48 victory over Brick in a Shore Conference Class A South game.

Joe Spitale, who led all scorers with 28 points, missed a three-point shot on Brick's final possession. Brick had defeated North, 62-41, in their first meeting. SHORE 69, MONSIGNOR DONOVAN 54: Shore took an 18-10 first-quarter lead en route to a Class victory that prevented Monsignor Donovan coach Steve Gepp from notching his 400th career win. Mark Palotta scored 14 of his game-high 29 points in the fourth quarter for the Blue Devils (11-7) while Joe Nappo had 20 of his 26 points in the second half. Rob Runyon scored 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds for Monsignor Donovan (7-14).

SOUTHERN 91, JACKSON 46: Page Konnor scored a game-high 20 points, Dave Moehring had 18 and Brian Tuttle 17 as the Rams crushed the Jaguars in a Gass A South game. LONG BRANCH 69, MONMOUTH 64: Darryl Daniels scored 15 of his 34 points in the third quarter to give Long Branch a 55-50 lead en route to a Class North victory over the Golden Falcons. It was the varsity debut for Monmouth coach Joe Pingi- tore. POINT BORO 78, PINELANDS 48: Paul Fitzgerald scored 10 of his game-high 18 points in the first quarter and finished with nine assists and four steals as Point Boro posted a non-conference victory. RED BANK CATHOLIC 57, RUMSON 40: Jason Gray scored eight of his 12 points in the second quarter to lead the Caseys to a non-conference victory over Rumson.

HENRY HUDSON 55, ST. MARY'S 41: Carl Roth and Pat LaPanne each scored 16 points as Henry Hudson Neptune, draw top Press Staff Report NEPTUNE AND RARITAN, the only two undefeated Shore area girls basketball teams, have received number one seedings in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Assoca- tion tournament. Neptune, ranked No. 1 at the Shore with an 18-0 record, is the top seed in Central Jersey Group IV. The Scarlet Fliers have a bye in the first round and will meet the winner of Edison (9) and Middletown North (8) in the second round.

Raritan, sporting a 20-0 record and the second-ranked Shore area team, has a first-round bye and will face the winner of Watchung Hills (9) and West Windsor-Plainsboro (8) in Central Jersey Group III. "We're very honored to be named the top seed," said Neptune coach Ken O'Donnell. "But right now we're concentrating on the Shore Conference playoffs." Manasquan is seeded second and Rumson is third in Central Jersey Goup II. In South Jersey, Toms River East is the second seed in Group IV and Southern is the sixth seed. Lake-wood is the second seed in SJ Group III.

In Parochial South Jersey Group St. John Vianney has been seeded third and will face Monsignor Donovan, the sixth seed, in the opening round. St. Rose is seeded seventh. SOUTHERN 77, JACKSON 22: Mary Tantillo and Charity Smead combined for 58 points to lead the Rams to a Shore Conference Class A South win over the Jaguars.

Southern is now 1 5-6 overall and 9-2 in conference. Tantillo, a 5-foot-6 junior, had a season-high 33 points and Smead added 23 points. Cheri Vallance chipped in 10 points. TOMS RIVER NORTH 44, BRICK 27: Allison Packowski scored 15 points, leading the Mariners to a Class A South win at Brick.
