Asbury Park PressWednesday, Oct. 20, 1 993 A7 Mob Sovereign's Home Equity Line Of Credit buried next to Ricciardi's property. That body has not been found, although authorities said yesterday they believe it is there. Michael Taccetta and Perna also pleaded guilty to federal racketeering charges last month. Under yesterday's agreement with the state, Michael Taccetta and Perna pleaded guilty to racketeering through extortion, gambling, loan sharking, murder, bribery, drug distribution and jury tampering dating back to 1972.

They also admitted to participating in 10 slayings, including Craparotta's. As part of their agreement, any sentence they receive on the state racketeering charges will be served concurrent to the sentence they receive on the federal charges. The state agreement outlines maximum sentences of 25 years for each defendant with 12'2 years being served before becoming eligible for parole. They face a maximum 25 years on the federal racketeering charges when sentenced Dec. 3.

The plea agreement, however, has no bearing on the August racketeering conviction of Michael Taccetta, who faces a maximum 30 years in prison but could be given an extended term of up to 60 years. Perna was not charged in that case. The seven men slain by Michael Taccetta and Perna are: Craparotta; Redman, killed in July 1990 in Howell Township; Richard DeMary, killed in November 1976 in East Hanover Township; Gregory Minichino, killed in October 1977; Patrick Maronne, killed in August 1980 in West Orange; Ray Doe, killed in December 1980 in Dover Township; and an unidentified black male, killed in 1982 or 1983 in Newark. "The defendant has devoted himself to a life of crime," Greenberg said. "The evidence at trial demonstrated (his) ruthlessness." Also convicted of racketeering in August were Michael Taccetta, longtime Lucchese boss Anthony "Tumac" Accetturo Sr.

and Thomas A. Ricci-ardi. In addition, Ricciardi, Dover Township, was convicted of murdering Craparotta with a metal golf club on June 12, 1984, outside Craparotta's used car dealership on Route 9 in Dover Township. Authorities said the Taccettas, Accetturo and Ricciardi extorted $1,000 a week from SMS Inc. after Craparotta's murder.

The remaining three defendants are scheduled for sentencing Dec. 16. Accetturo, 54, who authorities said ran the Lucchese organization's New Jersey faction while hiding out in Hollywood, and Ricciardi, 41, are cooperating with federal and state law enforcement authorities in hopes of getting reduced sentences. Their cooperation led to yesterday's guilty pleas by Michael Taccetta, who authorities said headed the crime family in Accetturo's absence, and Perna, who they said controlled the organization's business interests while Taccetta was in jail in the early 1990s. The information already led authorities to the body of John Redman, unearthed last month in the woods near the seventh hole fairway at Shore Oaks Country Club in Howell Township.

Redman, of Morris Plains, was a numbers runner for the Lucchese crime family. Authorities also dug for one week in Dover Township looking for a man they've identified as Ray "Doe," believed to have been slain in 1980 and In addition, Perna admitted participating in the murder of Anthony Cuozzo in January 1992 in Newark. Taccetta admitted to participating in the murders of Roger Miller in January 1972 in Newark, Martin DeLuca in June 1973 in Newark and Peter Carlo in January 1975 in Newark. Perna also pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to murder Accetturo, Ricciardi, Anthony Accetturo Daniel Ricciardi, Joseph Ricciardi, Joseph LaMorte and Daniel Miano. Both plea agreements were designed to protect the men from future prosecution that may result from further investigations into the Lucchese crime family's activities, Carroll said.

In federal court last month, Taccetta and Perna pleaded guilty to corrupting the Newark Sanitation Department, plotting in 10 murders and bribing a juror in a federal trial five years ago in which 20 Lucchese crime family members were acquitted. Michael Taccetta remained in custody, but Perna, who is under house arrest and wearing an ankle bracelet, was allowed to go free in his own recognizance. Carroll cited former Lucchese boss Alphonse D'Arco and former Bruno Scarfo underboss Philip Leonetti with helping gain the convictions. Both men testified at the summer trial and are in the federal witness protection program. Accetturo is negotiating a deal with state authorities, Carroll said.

Ricciardi already made a deal with federal authorities and he and his family have entered the witness protection program, although Ricciardi remains in jail, Carroll said. "There is nothing that will affect his sentence at this point," Carroll said. "These charges are not wiped out." NoClosingFees. No Application Fees. From page Al chines.

He was acquitted during that trial of murdering their uncle, Vincent J. "Jimmy Sinatra" Craparotta Sr. of Dover Township. I The guilty pleas were entered by Michael Taccetta, 46, of Florham Park, who authorities say is the head of the Lucchese family's New Jersey faction, and Michael Perna, 51, of Belleville, described as a captain in the Lucchese crime family. Acting Attorney General Frederick P.

DeVesa called the sentence and the guilty pleas part of "an unprecedented attack on the La Cosa Nostra in New Jersey." "Organized crime has been battered severely at every level, from associate to soldier to boss," DeVesa said yesterday. "We will continue to put whatever pressure it takes on those in organized crime to strengthen our grip." Special Assistant Attorney General Robert J. Carroll, who prosecuted the Taccettas this past summer, said jus-, tice has been served with regards to 1 Martin Taccetta's sentence and the guilty pleas by Michael Taccetta and Perna. "This ends a reign of a very violent, sophisticated crime group that operated in New Jersey for decades," Carroll said. "The roots of organized crime have been shaken." Greenberg, noting Martin Taccet-, ta's prior criminal record, called him a i persistent offender who has not been I rehabilitated despite previous prison I terms, probation and parole.
